Fun appetizer ideas

Well it's that time of year again...Christmas is over, so that means I start planning my yearly wine & cheese party. This will be the fourth time DH and I have thrown this and we really enjoy it. We always serve four different wines, two whites and two reds, with cheese to match. I need other appetizer ideas please!

I try to stay away from cheesy apps since we're already having cheese with the wine. This is what I've planned so far:
Shrimp cocktail
Deviled eggs
Bruschetta
Veggies & hummus
Chocolate covered marshmallows (I made these last year and they were a huge hit)

So what are your fun appetizers that you usually serve? I don't want anything very strongly-flavored so that everyone can taste the wines properly.

Chocolate covered pretzels (salty and sweet)
Pinwheel sandwiches (various cold cuts/vegetables with a sauce rolled up in a tortilla and sliced thinly)
Cantaloupe wrapped in prosciutto
Mixed Nuts
Apples and grapes to go with the cheese

Charcuterie platter.
Crostini with rosemary-scented white beans.
Mixed pitted olives.

I love doing pigs in blankets, with croissant or puff pastry dough. They're easy, tasty, filling (soak up the alcohol in case someone indulges a little too much) and with a few little dips can add flavor to anything - or can be served plain and won't interfere with the taste of the wine.

They also are good hot, warm or room temperature, which is always nice for parties - no fretting about them being at the right temperature.

One I really like is a baking a square of puff pasty (I tuck them into muffin tins to get a good shape), then adding either a bit of cream cheese and a slice of roasted red pepper, or cream cheese and olive tapenade.

Grilled chicken or beef skewers could work well - tasty, can be prepped in advance, and help soak up the alcohol.

Dates (fresh) stuffed with goat cheese or/and baked brie.

Miniature crab cakes are good.

Our yearly wine and cheese party always includes little smokies in apricot sauce, and lately bacon and chocolate chip cookies. They also include upwards of 20 bottles of wine and some homemade beer and 'shine so that might be a little more downhome "fun" than what you are looking for

Marinate skinless boneless chicken in Italian dressing for a few hours. Cook on a compression grill (like a Foreman). Cut into easy to nibble size strips. Serve on a platter with pita triangles and hummus. Its so simple but really tasty, really easy and a nice low fat option for after the sweets of the holidays and the (delicious) fattiness of cheese.

This one is easy; get the small mozzarella balls, and grape tomatoes. Put one of each on a toothpick, arrange, and voila, instant appetizer. You can also drizzle them with a little olive oil, and sprinkle with some fresh basil

Buy a thin baguette and have it sliced into rounds. Toast them on a baking sheet and brush with seasoned olive oil. Serve with pesto or bruschetta toppings, or with a warm cheese dip.
