Laura was born on today's date (Feb. 7) in 1867.
She's 100 years and 1 week older than me.

I loved the books when I was young.

I have it on hold from the library, but don't know how many holds are ahead of me.

I can read an average book in about one to three days if the book is really good/interesting. How long would you say it takes to read this book? Checkout is three weeks and I doubt I can renew it since I'm sure there's a waiting list.

With all of the annotations and footnotes, its taking me longer than normal to read this.  I'm normally a quick reader too, but it's going to take me about a week to completely read through this.  (That's with a toddler at home, though!)

It's not available as an ebook. :(

I've had Pioneer Girl preordered since August and still haven't gotten a copy. I'm going to devour it when it gets here...

Here's the website of the book. Maybe you can ask if it ever will be an ebook.

I really think they underestimated the "fanatic" part of Little House "fans" and didn't anticipate such a large demand of this book. Or maybe they can only print in small batches since they are a small company. I've heard others with similar frustrations as their copy keeps getting pushed back again and again.

Same here. I'm tempted to pull my "I'm a Wilder scholar!" obnoxious card to see if I can get it, darn it all! Usually I have the patience of BookMary, but not where this is concerned. I've read excerpts of the original mss and have been itching for this project for a good decade!

Me too.

Here is another great, well researched Wilder book that I bought years ago:

DH had to cancel his preorder through Amazon because they kept pushing back the release date, but when he ordered it through the Pioneer Girl website, it came right away (within 2 weeks).

So, does anyone want to scan their copy of Pioneer Girl and appease us rabid ehellions? No? Shucks.

For those who have a copy, are there any graphics in the book or is it text only? I need to find out if I have to be in an academic or a nostalgic mindset to read it.

There are a few pictures, mostly family photos and some early book illustrations.

It is taking me longer to read it because of the footnotes, so I'm reading it more like an academic then a story. You could skip the footnotes and just read it as the story though.

Hey Ozdiva, our birthdates are very close, looks like you're about a week older than me!  I also read these books many times over when I was young.

Yep, you are 5 days older than me!  At my job, there is one guy who is 10 days older than me and one that is 2 days older (I work in HR and have access to birthdate info).  Every year, we email each other and say Happy ___th birthday!  I guess this year it will be 48th.... :P
