Kenyan Safari in June - Tips?

(1/2) > >>

Morticia:
Trip of a lifetime fell into our lap far before we were expecting. It's a guided tour with a set itinerary, excellent ratings from trip advisor. Anything we should know? We won't be unescorted.

demarco:
I don't have any advice but I'll be watching this thread with interest. I've always wanted to travel to Africa and was never organized enough to make a plan.

Morticia:
It didn't actually take much planning.  We got a deal on a tour. Everything is done for us except paying and enjoying.  :)

ETA I suppose I should clarify that I am looking for tips on spotting animals, trail etiquette and things we will wish we brought.

Morticia:
We are back. We had the most amazing time. For the benefit of anyone thinking of doing this in the future:

They will tell you to wear neutral coloured clothes. This is not necessary. You are in a vehicle, you are not sneaking up on beasts in the wild. Comfy clothes and very comfy shoes -- I recommend Birkenstocks, because you are standing in the vehicles on the game drives.

Bring cash. The guide, and frequently hotel staff, get tipped in cash. Also, optional side trips are usual cash affairs and there are not  a lot of ATMs on the savanna. US$, Pounds Sterling, and Euros are widely accepted.

Bring a really good camera: yours or someone else's.

Prepare for weather that ranges from cold and damp to hot and dry.

If anyone has questions, please feel free to ask.

Hi

I am glad you had a great time.
I have a few questions if you don't mind.
Did you feel safe as a tourist?
Was there much worry about malaria where you were?

What tour group did you use?
What was your favourite animal?

Thanks
Marzipan
