given the concerns about colon health, the Portland traffic department has come up with this very important public health message

I drove by one of these the other day in Portland, but I didn't realize it was a "thing."

Hilarious!
If wisdom’s ways you wisely seek,
Five things observe with care,
To whom you speak,
Of whom you speak,
And how, and when, and where.

Actually, I don't find vandalism of public property, particularly messing with safety signs, terribly witty.

I doubt that the alteration diminishes the safety function of the road sign. It's not the same as removing stop signs.

Yeah, that color and shape is known to anyone. Heck, most of the world uses the same red octagonal sign to mean Stop now, and I think most of us could identify a stop sign even if it were not in a language we spoke.

Is Portland trying to challenge Austin as "America's Weirdest City"? Or is it already there?

I think it's funny. And traffic signs don't need words to be understood. Every time I've taken DMV tests I've had to identify signs by their shape only.
It's not the same as someone stealing a stop sign, which is a very bad thing.

It's still vandalism. And while I doubt the alteration will cause accidents, I would hate to see someone try to up the ante - "Oh, it would be REALLY funny if I STOLE THE ENTIRE SIGN!"

I am intrigued, however, that this person has apparently had professionally-made stickers (or so they appear) created in order to perform his alterations.
