This was someone I saw in the mall nearly every day but to whom I had never spoken. I always smiled as I walked past, a nod for acknowledgement that we both worked similar retail jobs and boy was it going to be a busy day. She stopped me once and said, "I just wanted to say, every time I see you, you're smiling, and it is so beautiful; it reaches your eyes every single time."
The second best was about my hair...I had a mohawk at the time with checkerboards shaved into the sides of my head. An older lady (70ish) in Wal-Mart saw me and her eyes went wide. I was sure she was going to make some nasty comment. Instead she looked right at me, proffered her hand to shake, and said, "I wish I had the guts to do that. Don't you ever let anyone make fun of you for being different. They're just jealous that they're too afraid to be themselves!"
