That looks delish.  I too agree with offering a non sweet dressing for those that may prefer it.

Oh, I thought it was perfect but then someone mentioned clotted cream which would be perfect plus perfect. I have never found clotted cream in north america, but there is a "Devon cream" that is found in a jar near whipping cream. Or if you are ambitious, you can make clotted cream by baking whipping cream overnight.

Mascarpone with whipping cream also gives a good aproximation to clotted cream

Apparently Whole Foods sells clotted cream by its other name Devonshire cream.

I wonder if you might want to go all the way and use delicate bone china cups and saucers? It seems to me that I have seen them (not in a set, though) at thrift stores for not much money. That may be too much, but if not I think it would be fun to have different cups/saucers with the delicate flower patterns that are traditional.

I've been collecting antique willow ware china for a few years now and finally have enough to serve this group on my lunch and dessert plates along with the tea set. I don't have quite enough soup bowls yet, so thank goodness soup is not a traditional accompaniment to afternoon tea!

I suspect 'Devon cream' might be clotted cream- if not, extra-thick double cream might make a workable solution.

I used James Beard's persimmon bread recipe, substituting cinnamon for nutmeg.
