S/O Do you knock first? Regional variations in dealing with closed doors.

I'm in Midwestern America, Northeast Ohio specifically, but I'm from the South.

I always knock on any closed doors unless there is some kind of signage indicating to do otherwise.

I'm also from NE Ohio, and at home with a closed door, we try the handle. At someone else's home (that is not family) I knock.

In public, I try the handle.
