I've been in business for 25 years, and always shook hands. However, it may be a regional/cultural thing.
My cousin's memoir of love and loneliness while raising a child with multiple disabilities will be out on Amazon soon! Know the Night, by Maria Mutch, has been called "full of hope, light, and companionship for surviving the small hours of the night."

I agree.  That would have been about when I was just starting out on my adult jobs, and I always shook hands with folks when I did interviews and met them for business.  And then when I started with my first bank, I always shook hands with customers after opening their accounts/closing loans/other business appropriate times.
