I got to see them.  I think it was a great first attempt!  It looks so cool.

If I could make a recommendation?  Use a smaller piping tip for the cherry blossom work next time to account for the spreading.
yes, well I didn't have an actual piping bag and used a ziploc bag instead. Now that I got the hang if it I can buy the piping tools

was it tasty? and what did you use for the filling?
Haven't really tasted yet, just a few crumbs. The filling is vanilla cream ( pudding mix, milk and heavy cream whipped together). I had meant to make white chocolate ganache but it called for a lot of chocolate!

I bow to your piping skills if you managed that with just the corner snipped of a ziploc bag!
I have CDO.  It is like OCD but with the letters in alphabetical order, as they should be.

Oh, my! That's gorgeous!

Kudos to you for your first the attempt! And I'm glad that the crack and pale colors don't put you off of trying again.

What was your son's reaction? I bet he was tickled pink! ;D

I loved the idea but I refuse to make rolls. So I applied the principle to a cinnamon pound cake. I set aside some of the batter, added some cocoa for a nice contrasting colour and piped my father's initial and a few ornamental designs with it on parchment paper. I froze it, added the rest of the batter and baked it. Once it was done, I sprinkled some sugar over everything.

It looked pretty good (despite the lopsided letter) and it was delicious! No photos, as I was running late already.
