Attention Weather Channel People

Please stop referring to Boston as "Beantown"

It's not clever and doesn't make you appear to be a Boston insider.  In fact, it has the opposite effect.

People who live there cringe at the sound of it.

It's like referring to San Francisco as "Frisco".

LOL! I can't believe they actually do that.

It probably grates on Bostonians' ears like it grates on my ears to hear Mpls/St. Paul referred to as The Twin Towns rather than The Twin Cities. Even I know better than to use "Beantown" or "Frisco." :)

What's worse is, they usually get the weather wrong anyway.

LOL!!!  I agree.  If you don't live there, just call it by its name.

The very first thing I learned when I moved to CA was not to call San Francisco "Frisco".  Everyone calls it "San Fran."  Now I can always tell if someone's really a Californian or if they are just trying to be cool.

Or when they say "Indy" for Indianapolis or "Hot-Lanta" for Atlanta....

It isn't cool or cute...they just sound like dorks!

I've never heard "Twin Towns."  Maybe some news/weather people need to put down the thesaurus.   :P

And here I was making fun of them for saying things like, "Wowzer!"

I'm still waiting for the local weatherman to refer to my hometown as "Meth Valley" - it's nationally-known nickname.

I cannot tolerate it when they say "Hotlanta". No one from Atlanta or the surrounding area says that. It actually annoys the tar out of them. Like "Chi-town" and "Beantown". You sound ridiculous, not cool....

And I get all upset when people mispronounce New Orleans...we who live/lived there do not call it Nawlins, and it is not New Ore-leans (rhyming with beans) but pronounced "lens", like in your glasses,  It was supposedly named after the Duke De'Orleans, and our patron "saint" is Joan of Arc (the Maid of Orleans).

It grates my nerves, probably because of walking to work or school during Mardi Gras and having drunkards mooning and flashing me and yelling "NAWLINS BABY"
