Store bought pre-made foods that were/are surprisingly good!
« on: September 12, 2013, 04:14:13 PM »
I rarely buy pre-packaged dishes.  But I decided to try Bob Evans Mashed Potatoes (in the refrigerated section, usually next to meats), and YUM!  They are really good.

Almost anything by Marie Callendar's.  Especially the chicken pot pie.

Yes!!   Surprisingly tasty.  Pepperidge Farm used to have a super-delicious chicken pot pie but I think they stopped making it a few years ago.  I miss it.

Wegman's sells chocolate and vanilla layer cakes that really do taste home made.  They make them in small rounds, regular sized rounds, and large oblongs, and will write on the top if you ask the bakery person.  I think they may have had an employee cake contest a few years back, and have continued making the winning recipe. [With modifications for staying fresh, I'm sure.]

Wegman's also sold a fantastic panettonne cake last Christmas that was actually made in Italy.

Oh yes, they are divine

I also like Whole Food's Bali BBQ Turkey burgers
I buy bob Evans mashed potatoes and add goat cheese and butter to them.  Their sweet potatoes are also really yummy

I used jarred indian sauces rather than make my own.  I forget who makes them.

The Lean Cuisine Glazed Chicken is surprisingly good. And there's a brand of frozen quiche (Nancy's, I think?) - anyway, they're just right for one person, heat up well in the microwave, and are very tasty for lunch.

There's a local grocery chain here, Lunds and Byerly's, that has some really good deli, hot, and frozen foods. Their fried chicken and rotisserie chicken are both good; they also do rotisserie turkey breast. They have a pasta salad with chicken, dried cherries, and walnuts that's good, too. And they sell this creamed rice stuff that is amazing - it's rice cooked with cream, and they add sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla...it's not rice pudding, but it's really, really tasty.
