This reminds me of one of my former retail jobs....we had those blankety blank surveys that printed out at the bottom of random customers' receipts.  One of the categories that employees were rated on was the sincerity of the thank you that they gave each customer at the end of the transaction.  I never could figure that one out.....

One of the primary reasons I ended up quitting is I could never figure out the moving target of fake bubbly enthusiasm that we were supposed to project.  It became so irritating to me that a competent, quick, and polite transaction was considered bad that I just gave up and left.  Especially frustrating when other employees were sickeningly gushy to customers and slowed things down to a crawl so they could have a personal chat with customers so they could try to up their sincerity score.  I worked at a fabric/craft store.
