After a five-year ban, our company finally re-allowed jeans on Fridays a few weeks ago. I came bopping in last Friday in a long dress in a soft knit fabric and a cardigan, only to be accosted by one of my young co-workers who exclaimed words to the effect of,  "Hey, we can wear jeans on Friday now! You should have worn something comfortable!"

I looked at her skintight jeans, then looked at my dress (which is flattering, but about as "constructed" as a nightgown) and said "which one of us is dressed more comfortably?"

To her credit (she's a smart cookie, even if she is young enough to be my daughter) I could see the light dawn in her eyes almost immediately.

One of the chickens laid our first egg this morning.

Out on the patio we'd sit,
And the humidity we'd breathe,
We'd watch the lightning crack over canefields
Laugh and think, this is Australia.

Speaking of chickens, I added 5 new girls, bringing us up to 7. Two red hybrids and three barred Plymouth Rocks I can't tell apart.

Their names: Ruby, Checkers, Checkers, Checkers, and Donald Trump. (One of the hybrids has a very bad toupee and a deep voice.)

Love it!

There are some absurdly tall irises growing across the street. I got my husband to take a picture of me next to them, showing that the tallest is at my eye level.
Any advice that requires the use of a time machine may safely be ignored.

The air conditioning was not working this morning at work, and we had no circulation. It came back on!

One of our girls has a Donald Trump toupee as well.

(Apparently all of ours have names but I don't know what they are right now.  I'm sure I'll find out eventually.  They are gifts from a friend who has over 70 chickens and ducks, each with a name.)

Two things...

The X-Files is planning a come back and I notice ABC is now allowing those with Direct TV accounts to watch shows the next day as opposed the week I was waiting.  (They require an account verification with certain providers before shows can be viewed right away).

I got to work right at 8 this morning, and there were a lot of people turning into the (gated) parking lot.  Those turning right created almost a zipper merge with those of us waiting to turn left - one of them and then one of us.  I thought that was very reassuring about people in general. (And a nice counterpoint to what will be posted in the up the wall thread.)

Also, this is so small I've never made an entry just for it, but every time I follow a link in E-Hell, I appreciate the fact that the programming has it open another window, rather than sending the current window there, and then trying to re-find where I was here.  I've gotten better about right clicking to select Open in New Tab, but don't always remember, and Ehell keeps me from frustrating myself :)

This happened over a week ago but I am still happy. The snow finally melted and I can walk on the sidewalk.

This has had me giggling today.

Sent this text to my son this morning:

"So I dreamed you wrote a book. Not read one - wrote one.
Your book was a worldwide bestseller and the required text in most high schools and colleges. You wrote it in 36 hours and it was over 500 pages long - with diagrams.

The title was "An Analysis of the Origins of the Current Political Situation as Developed from 1940 to the Present - Presented in the Context of the Worlds of Harry Potter."

Clearly, my brain is busted.
(But I want to read that book now!)
"I think her scattergun was only loaded with commas and full-stops, although some of them cuddled together for warmth and produced little baby colons and semi-colons." ~ Margo
