The picture part sounds like every indian muslim wedding I've been to in the US.  A significant portion of the evening is devoted to finding every possible combination of people to take pictures with the bride and groom.  However, this includes the family & guests, often doubles as a chance for each guest to chat with the bride and groom, and there is no dancing to stop in order to accomplish this (so it doesn't interrupt much of anything).  I will say that I still prefer the newer method of the bride and groom coming around to meet each guest and take pictures at the guest tables.
