In the food-related vein... My friend Amy is one of those people who can get up in the morning, shower, get dressed, get ready, drop her kids at daycare, then drive to a restaurant and eat a nice big breakfast. Me, I'm one of those people who falls out of bed in the morning, crawls into the kitchen, and stuffs cereal into my face before I can even stand. Okay, slight exaggeration
but I need to eat something pretty much right when I get up, and it really shouldn't be too heavy.
So if we're having a day together, she'll plan that we go to a restaurant and have a big "breakfast" at 9am, thinking this is going to be such a treat. I don't say anything anymore, I just have a granola bar when I first get up, and try to make that early enough that by 9am I'm ready to eat "second breakfast," which is probably still going to be less than she eats, but hopefully not noticeably so. It's only really a problem now if we're traveling together and she "catches" me eating my granola bar when we already have plans to go to "breakfast" later. And, I think she genuinely wonders if I don't
want the second breakfast, and wonders if she's being intrusive when she means to be nice. Obviously, she doesn't wonder enough to stop doing it, though
and/or I've convinced her it's fine. Because it is
fine, really, it's just much more of a treat for her
than it is for me
