I was on a conference call yesterday and doing several other things at the same time.  Therefore I was quite surprised when one of the gentlemen on the call brought up "assets and alligators." I was about to ask him to clarify when it snapped in and I realized he said "allocators."

The other night I was talking with some of DH's friend about how long a typical shower should take.  I mentioned that even with long hair and shaving my legs it takes me under 5 minutes, but for some reason my 16-year-old stepson "needs" upwards of half and hour/45 minutes.  One of his friends commented that he would have expected it would take women longer to shower, since we have to do things like "lather up your boobs."

I was puzzled why he would think women would have to lather up their boobs and commented that I was offended (joking, of course) that he would insinuate that women have dirty boobs, or that we all put on lather bikinis given the opportunity.

He looked at me puzzled and then the lightbulb went off.  POUFS.  He thought all women use those mesh-like poufs and it would take time to lather up the poof and rub it all over.

For the record, I don't use a pouf so maybe that is why my showers do not take that long?  For the record, my 16 year old stepson DOES use a pouf.  DH's friends might be on to something!!!  :)

My understanding is that the reason it often takes teenage boys a long time to shower has *nothing* to do with actually washing themselves...  ;)

I use a pouf, but I don't see why it would take any longer to rub your hand over it once or twice to lather it up than it would a washcloth.  I find it much easier to hold than a washcloth, so I actually think I'm faster with it.  The majority of my time in the shower is spent shaving or washing my hair, which is thick and usually long.

This is an old one, but back when I was in high school, I was having a conversation at the lunch table.  I don't remember the context now, but I remember wanting to refer to a "haunted house."  For some reason I couldn't think of the right phrase, so I said, "a horror house."  Because I have trouble enunciating a set of r's in a row (Rory comes out a bit like Roy if I'm not careful), the word "horror" sounded like, well, a one-syllable word that means a woman of ill repute.  Everybody burst out laughing, stunned that "sweet little innocent TeenagePenguin" would say such a thing, and I had no idea initially what I'd said!  It was fairly embarrassing to my teenage self at the time.  :)

When discussing region for DVD players in a loud room of 8 people, I made a comment that:

"Oh if you really need to, I've used OldSystem for foreign stuff"

and immediately I noticed surprise and discomfort on one of the faces, followed by a rumble next to me of "what?"

I repeated to no avail - and it turns out at a least a few people heard, "I've used OldSystem for porn stuff."  ::)  To which I responded, "No, that's what the internet is for."  hehe

Friend: Sometimes we have  lizards for dinner.
Me (showing interest): What kind of lizards?
Friend: I like the chocolate with strawberries and...
Me: (busts out laughing): oh you have Blizzards! I thou bt you said lizards!

Blizzards are like a shake with extra ingredients, cookies or strawberries, etc that are made by the Dairy Queen restaurant chain in the US.

"I deny the allegations and defy the alligators!"

Last week I was visiting some folks I don't see often: Old Friend, her husband, her daughter and her grandson. We were drinking bottled water, and I noticed that everyone was crushing their empty bottles in their hands. I did likewise.

Since I didn't know whether they had recycling for plastic, I asked, "Where do crushed water bottles go to die?"

Daughter didn't hear me clearly -- possibly because her son, who hasn't mastered the "inside voice" concept, was making background noise -- and thought I said, "Where did Kris Vudderbottom go to die?"

We agreed that "Vudderbottom" (if not "Kris") would be an excellent hobbit name. And I went to one of those "make your own gravestone" sites and created a stone for Kris Vudderbottom, with the epitaph "This is where I went to die."

My photography is on Redbubble! Come see: http://www.redbubble.com/people/baglady

Darnit, Baglady, now I'm trying desperately not to laugh in an open plan office and trying to supress my sniggering is just making me want to laugh even harder...

<wipes tears away>

I can't help thinking "Vudderbottom" sounds like german for "what a bottom".  ;D

These are some of the statements I've heard in medical dictations that have made me go :o:

*Medical renal disease of the right kidney which is a new finding from prior examination.  This may represent medical renal disease.

*There are very subtle changes which may represent subtle changes of centrilobular emphysema.  These are extremely subtle, however.

*There is ground glass opacity in both lower lungs with peripheral sparing of the periphery of the lung just peripheral to the posterior extent of the ground glass opacities.

*Clinical correlation is necessary for correlation.

*The patient was elevated to a horizontal position, but unfortunately was unable to maintain his chin up and turned his head, and dropped it to the side.

*A standard MRI of the lumbar spine was obtained without contrast from T12 through the sacrum.  This is compared to plain films of the lumbar spine from 3/11/15.  (This was dictated on 05/07/14.)

*Clinical information:  Chronic cervical spine.

On our recent vacation, we were in line for a ride when my daughters saw a young child who appeared to be not well-supervised.  One DD said to the other, "Someone's not being a good parent."

Other DD thought she said, "Mum won't stop being a good parent."

No, you can't, because you wishpishabonnyfish.

What's really bad is that the statements about the ground glass opacity and the one about the subtle changes are by the same doctor, who is now retired.  All the rest are different doctors.  And people wonder why medical transcriptionists are wild-eyed.
