I have a handbeaded clutch in an owl design. Perfect for me.

I have a small purse about 5 inches wide by 7 1/2  inches long.  It's flat and has a zipper at the top, plus a pocket on one side that also has a zipper.  It has a long cotton cord strap.  (It's from Guatemala.)  I love it!  I can take my tracfone and other 'flat stuff'.   It may not be the fabric you want for this particular wedding, but I am talking about the size and shape and that it has a pretty unobtrusive cord.  I wear it crossed over my chest, hanging down at my side.   I can knot the handle cord to make it longer or shorter.

My 'real' purse is a small backpack.
I've never knitted anything I could recognize when it was finished.  Actually, I've never finished anything, much to my family's relief.

That sounds so awesome. I'd love to see a picture of it if possible.

How fancy is the wedding?

Not very fancy, relaxed summer wedding with reception in the parc of a castle, but I'm in a nervous "let's make a good impression on SO's family" mindset  :P

I had forgoten about the word wristlet, if I DIY I'll definetly add a wristlet kind of strap.
I had also forgoten about thrift shops, I think I have a few nearby I'll check out.

thanks everyone :)

How about a small straw bag with a pretty flower pinned on or a light scarf tied to the handle?

I am not a clutch person, my regular bag is really big, but work events have made me need a nicer evening purse.

I found a great one at TJ Maxx. It's square-ish and without the chain, it fits perfectly in my hand.

I also saw some great dressy clutches/wallets at Hancock Fabric, of all places.
That's my purse! I don't know you!

I need to look at the tag so I can pull up the merchant's site.

I fully confess that I am a purse/handbag junkie.  They don't have to be brand new for me to fall in love.  Perhaps not this time, but if your local thrift store doesn't have a good selection you can browse http://www.shopgoodwill.com auctions.  I once scored a new with tag Kate Spade bag for a ridiculously low price.

Most of my clutches also have a chain strap.  Here's a great summer clutch:  http://www.shopgoodwill.com/auctions/Basket-Weave-Style-Clutch-Purse-16834946.html

Cute! I love owl themed wallets and have a few myself.
