UNL Students help with Pilger clean-up
« on: July 06, 2014, 11:49:33 AM »
By now just about everyone on earth has heard about the twin tornados that flattened Pilger, Nebraska, USA late on June 16.  I understand a picture of the tornados appeared in at least 1 European newspaper.

Pilgerís emergency needs for food, clothing, and temporary housing have been met.  What the town needs now is muscle power, strong people to move storm debris into trucks and help the residents find anything useable under it.

Lincoln, home of the largest University of Nebraska campus, is about 100 miles (160 km) from Pilger.  On July 28 more than fifty student athletes, all volunteers, boarded a bus and went to Pilger.  18 football players, 15 wrestlers, along with athletes from 10 other sports spent the day digging through the debris, and hauling it away, helping the town clean up.
