Wearing Makeup

I am simultaneously told what beautiful skin I have, and that I should wear a little more make up/make up would bring out my eyes.  Hey, I have nice skin because I do not wear makeup everyday!  Jellybean prefers me not to wear much if any make up, he says "You look just like you, but in unnatural colors" and hates lipstick the worse.

It is not rude to be well groomed and not wear something that would have had you marked as a Harlot not that long ago 

Well, good makeup doesn't ruin your skin. But most important of all if you want to have a hassle-free, good-looking skin is to use good skin-care. That way, you don't need concealing makeup.

My BF couldn't care less. He LOVES the way I look in the morning *insert picture of a cave woman* but he think I look nice in makeup too.

In college I used to wear it all the time because I feel better wearing it.  One day I chose not to for an early class and I had several people ask me if I was ill  .

I have the same thing: Very fare skin. And very dark circles under my eyes. Without little makeup magic, I do seem ill - especially under these horrible office lightning fixtures.

I almost never wear makeup (never even really learned how to do it "right", basically taught myself).  After seeing this thread, I asked my fiance if he preferred me with or without makeup... and it was a firm "without".  I was gonna ask his twin brother, but I realize it's been 3 years since that particular person has seen me with makeup.

If your BF doesn't care, then do what feels right to you!

I only wear eyeshadow and eyeliner, and maybe something to darken my eyebrows - I can't be bothered to screw around for a half hour with concealer and powder and all that other crap. Besides, I hate feeling like some kind of painted doll with all the creams and powders on my face. Also, my skin is very light and even the lightest concealer I could find will make dark blotchy patches on my face. I'm sure it shows that I don't wear the same make-up as a lot of women, but I don't care. If I need to put a pound of concealer on my face to be considered attractive, then I'll be ugly any day.

I've got no problem sitting for three hours in a makeup artist's chair getting done up as a Zabrek (star wars alien- horns around the forehead), or spending an hour applying lioness makeup to myself when dressing up as the goddess Sekhmet. But that's costume, not everyday. I love doing costume makeup, but have no use for applying the stuff everyday.

I think that the notion that a woman isn't complete without the stuff is an outdated and sexist belief. If a woman likes makeup, more power to her. But it's not for everybody. My mother forced it on me for prom, saying I looked dumpy without it. Gee, thanks mom. The face the goddess gave me is not acceptable for public view, I guess. Only when it's covered in warpaint. I washed the stuff off as soon as I got there.

Of course you're not. This whole sexist thing about women having to "look good" for men is nonsense. Nonsense, I tell you!!

That said, I've never worn makeup, whether to work or to go out. When I tell people this, they always say, "But you don't need it; you have lovely skin!" Um, yeah, have you heard of LOGIC? I have good skin genes, but I'm sure the fact that I've allowed my skin to breathe without clogging it up with cr*p for the last 25 years (I'm 37 and have no discernible wrinkles) also has something to do with it!

I have dark circles under my eyes, but they're not caused by anything I've done or not done; they're genetic. If you look at pictures of me as a baby you can see them. I've just never worried about it, and because of this no one else has.

The last time I wore makeup at all was for my brother's wedding... four years ago. Guess what the first thing was that I did when I got home after the reception? Rushed into the bathroom and got it OFF me!

This is the second mention of good skin resulting from not wearing makeup.  My skin issues were caused by genetics, not by wearing makeup. My brother has never worn makeup and he got the same skin I did. I rarely get breakouts now, but I have some residual red marks/scarring from years ago. As someone said upthread, good makeup does not cause bad skin.

I work in a very professional setting and I still don't wear makeup. I am well presenetd and groomed, but with 2 small boys to get out in the morning that's as far as I get! I have never had a problem with people telling me to that I have to wear makeup. Though I love the compliments I get when I Do!
Don't worry about it. My Dad always told me the most beautiful face is the one God gave me!

And makeup doesn't cause wrinkles either. Sun does. And of course - genetics.

I don't wear make up because no matter what brand I wear, it makes me break out. Even the Prescriptives brand. I gave up wearing make up a long time ago.

As for your mother, she may think that it's fine to go out in a full mask, but since when does that mean you need to follow suit? If your boyfriend says he doesn't like it, then that should be final. Maybe he needs to tell your mom he likes you just the way you are and see what transpires from that.

We should get your mom and my mom together.  My mom is 52, hasn't worn makeup for about 35 years and her hair is down to her knees.  She fusses at me because I DO wear makeup and she really hates red nail polish.  Should be a real eye-opener for both of them.
