This is the second mention of good skin resulting from not wearing makeup.  My skin issues were caused by genetics, not by wearing makeup. My brother has never worn makeup and he got the same skin I did. I rarely get breakouts now, but I have some residual red marks/scarring from years ago. As someone said upthread, good makeup does not cause bad skin.

I'm not saying that at all - good skin definitely has a genetic component. But I don't think it HURT me never wearing it, and it has probably stayed so good because I never put cr*p on it. I've lost count of the number of people I know who put cheap stuff on their faces and then complained when their faces broke out.

And as someone else said, staying out of the sun is very important. I never go in the sun, but with me it's more paranoia because my father died of melanoma. People have made fun of me for years because I refuse to tan. I'm about as white as you can get and still be a human, but when those people make fun of me for being so pale I have to restrain myself from going, "Nyah, nyah, at least I don't have wrinkles!!"

You know guys...I realized something. I actually have a BUTTLOAD of makeup. I love buying makeup. I love all the pretty colors. I just hate taking the time to put it on.

I thought that was funny, considering I started this whole thing about not wearing makeup. I swear I could send you each something and still have leftovers.

Well, good makeup doesn't ruin your skin. But most important of all if you want to have a hassle-free, good-looking skin is to use good skin-care. That way, you don't need concealing makeup.

My BF couldn't care less. He LOVES the way I look in the morning *insert picture of a cave woman* but he think I look nice in makeup too.

Even though good makeup does not ruin your skin, if you have very sensitive skin (me), psoriasis or have allergies to certain products/perfumes (me), even the best makeup can harm your skin.  Whatever they use in MaryKay and Clinique make me feel like I am having an Acid Peel, Este-Lauder foundation breaks me out, and Landcome eye makeup makes my eyes water furiously.  I have to pick and choose what I can wear from what lines, even of the best makeup around, and have often found cheaper makeups that do not bother me.

I wash my skin with a gentel cleanser, exfoliate 2 x a week and use Eucerine SPF 35 moisturizer 2x a day (love it and it is not greasy and does not break me out, helps controll my psoriasis)

To the OP:  Good hygiene and grooming are all that is important.  I myself never wore makeup until last spring, and even now I wear a minimal amount:  foundation just where I need it, blush, a touch of mascara, light lipstick, and occasionally eyeshadow.  I wear these products because I like them, but that's just me.  Why should a woman HAVE to wear makeup to be accepted?  All she HAS to be is well-groomed, which you've said that you are.  So tell your mother that you'll make your own decisions about your appearance.

hee hee ... i am the same way. I have tons of the stuff; but i rarely use it anymore.

I did find that when i was waitressing i made noticably (sp?) more $$ when i was wearing make-up. And that was even in the days when i had black or purple hair & lived in combat boots. I have to admit i caved at convention then & started wearing it to work every day.
It's alright, man. I'm only bleeding, man. Stay hungry, stay free, and do the best you can.

Here's me in the Zabrek makeup:

The costume is all my own handiwork, I'm just not wearing the big black cloak in the pic (it was HOT out that day)
and the lightsabers were assembled with parts I ordered from www.thecustomsabershop.com

I'm working on some more interchangable tunics and whatnot.

Not disrespectful at all. I generally don't wear makeup except a little bit for church and I really do it up for special occasions or choir concerts. Of course when I do makeup it looks a bit goth(I'm already pale anyway, so I just do dark eyeshadow and lipstick), but that's how I prefer it. My dad doesn't like makeup though and he always tells me it's "too dark" even if I barely put any on, so I've given up asking him what he thinks. I don't wear makeup to please anybody but myself, but if others like it then YAY for them :)

There's one lady at my church who thinks she's the next Tammy Faye Baker. BIG hair, huge fake eyelashes, fifty pounds of foundation, fifty more pounds of eyeshadow/eyeliner and BRIGHT pink lipstick. Sometimes I really want to reach over and see if her face just peels off ^^

nicely done!

I love watching people in the background of these kind of photos.  There is a lady and gentleman in the background (She has a pink tank top on) that you can almost hear the "don't look at the crazy person over there"  Of course the guy in the black shirt is thinking "COOL"

Of course I get that all the time when I am on the way to an SCA event and stop somewhere to pick up something.  Somehow the sideless surcoat with train is just a little "crazy lady"

You may want to try mineral makeup. People tend to tolerate that stuff. It's easy to apply too.

A little background on me...I like to live simply. I don't spend an hour doing my hair every morning. My morning routine consists of dressing and brushing hair/teeth. I don't wear makeup. I wear chapstick or sometimes tinted lip balm. Occasionally I will wear a lipstick, and once in awhile I will wear some foundation.

My mother has informed me that I am being exceedingly disrespectful to my boyfriend for not wearing makeup around him. Oh, and I am also being rude to everyone else on the planet for not wearing makeup. She's the type of person who isn't seen without the whole getup--foundation, blush, eyeliner, shadow, mascara, lipstick, etc.

I don't have any hideous scars or disfigurements. I don't have pockmarks or acne scars. I might have a zit or two (which I DO usually try to cover up), but that's it.

Am I rude for not wearing makeup? Have I really been so competely clueless?

ETA: I also take care of other hygiene in the morning, in case you were wondering. I was just pointing out that I'm not very focused on makeup, hair, etc.

I used to have the same problem with my mom.  We've finally come to terms (at least, most of the time).  She understands that we're very different people.

The bad news is--this has happened in the last 2-3 years.  I just turned 50 and Mom's almost 84.

I've never been much of a make-up wearer and am always surprised when someone tells me I should wear it. I would be really upset if my mom told me that! You should be comfortable with how you look  - that mean not wearing make-up if that is what you prefer. My DH doesn't really like make-up (when I 'dress up' he does notice the small amount of make-up I wear) and I think there are many men out there like him. As long as you are comfortable and your boyfriend thinks you are beautiful, then mom is the only one being rude.
