I think that's very true of the "look how stupid people are," type of TV shows.  I watched "Wife Swap" for awhile, too. I also watched that Flavah Flave show which was like a low class Bachelor.  Then I realized I was watching a lot of these shows to reassure myself that I was so much classier and smarter than those people.  I realized this was a negative reason to watch a TV show and stopped.
