Roleplay - Cosplay - Costuming - Anyone?
« on: January 09, 2007, 01:30:57 PM »
Someone else noted they were considering joining the Rebel Legion. Someone else said they wear Zabrek makeup.  So now I'm curious ... how many of us here roleplay and/or cosplay, regardless of the universe?

I was an avid Masquerade player years ago, did my share of Dungeons and Dragons also. I kind of outgrew it a bit (we all know that one person who games WAY too much!) but I used to love it. I even had a Clan Toreador t-shirt that I wore to rags....
I have finally found the bar I can't get thrown out of....

I want to - but there are issues with DeHubby - who thinks that wearing a military uniform is enough during the week.  Weekends - he wants to dress casually.  He refuses to see that a nice linen tunic and braes might be so relaxing to wear while he teaches DeSon how to handle a sword.

DeSon asked for a black robe (hooded and sleeved) for his birthday this year (13-years-old), so all hope is not lost.

DeDaughter wanted Halloween costumes growing up and would wear pioneer type costumes when we were going to Fort Concho days when we still lived in San Angelo.  Her fiance bought her a custom made corset at a Ren Faire - but she lives 850 miles away from us.  So........not much "fun" going places with her right now.............wedding in July.  But clothing choices are going to be more "traditional" than "costume" - or there will be problems getting some family and older friends to STAY for the event!

Perhaps the fairy wings should stay in the closet a bit longer?

Let sleeping dragons be.......morning breath......need I say more?

My husband and I are very active members of the 501st Legion.   ;D

I've played RPG's off and on since D&D was three staple-bound booklets. I don't do it much these days, but I still have many fond memories and could probably be tempted back with just the right game. Oh, and my brother still picks my brains for ideas and background on some of the games he runs.

Let's see...I belonged to the SCA for several years, once upon a time. And I've done quite a few gigs in costume demonstrating the art of bobbin lacemaking at historical sites and fairs.

And suddenly I find myself wanting to play dressup again.

Awesome! ;D

But hey, I play a Dark Jedi, too, and a Sith, does that help lessen the Rebel stain ;)

It helps considerably.   ;)  Most of our local garrison has dual memberships in both the 501st and the Rebel Legion.  Hopefully if junior doesn't completely destroy the budget and my body bounces back after my pregnancy, I'll be doing our garrison's Aayla Secura (wish me luck on pulling off realistic lekku that don't cause neck strain).  I think my husband's eyeballing the Republic Commando gear.  The best part of this for both of us is the work we do with kids.  It's incredibly cool how excited kids are when they start seeing all these screen-accurate Star Wars characters suddenly brought to life.  The costuming is a lot of fun, but the charity work makes it all so worthwhile.

I'd love to find out if there's a local chapter/garrison.  Sometimes I feel very much the odd-geek out out here ;)

Good luck with the lekku - a few friends do that and I do NOT envy the headaches!

*bounds in waving hands wildly* OH!! ME ME!!

Let’s see. . . For a time I was part of a group similar to Belegarth, but they stopped fighting. Now I wander the Ren fair when it comes with my friends as pirates. We generally get a fair amount of people mistaking us for actual actors there (which isn’t really THAT far off as one of our friends does work there and we’re going to audition for parts next year).

As far as Star Wars goes, I’m almost finished with the prototype of my custom Sith Lord outfit for Celebration IV. After that’s done I’m considering a Revan or Scout trooper outfit. . Haven’t decided which yet. Someday I plan on making a Darth Talon costume as well. . .hehe. . My fiance is working on a custom Jedi outfit, and he wants to go for a Imperial Naval Officer after that. (Our custom costumes we’re working on are for some fan films we want to put together at some point in the future, so we can‘t join the 501st with them. *sniffles* )

If anyone is in the Houston area - I got a business card the other day from a lady who does Ren Faire costuming............we were getting our cars inspected at the same time and began talking to pass the time.

I have also been a Red Hatter (well, pink hatter due to age until next birthday, actually) - so I can wear some outfits a little less "stodgy" than the average lady of uncertain age..........DH does NOT go to these events with me.  He prefers "Air Force Blue" clothing - even when not in uniform.  He will also wear school colors during football season - but a dark red (no blue undertones to go to maroon or burgundy) is about as "outrageous" as he is comfortable with.  Except on Halloween........he's been a pirate (made that one in 1980 - he still has it), a vampire, and Tarzan (1981? - and he still has that one, too).  He just doesn't feel like dressing up EVERY year.............

For the record, as long as you meet costuming standards (canon "bad guy" characters, costumes of a certain grade), nobody is likely going to care what you do with your costumes on your own time.  If they meet 501st standards, you'll have no problems getting membership.  Also for the record, a lot of the 501st herd have a history of fan films.  http://www.atomfilms.com/film/pitching_lucas.jsp "Pitching Lucas" was done by a bunch of the members last year.  It's not atypical behavior for the bunch.  ;)  Also... good call on the biker scout armor as opposed to the stormtrooper gear.  You'd actually be able to bend over to pick things up.   ;)

Yeah. I also love the Scouttrooper look more than the stormtrooper . :) Another plus is that my dad would be more than willing to lend me his help and tools to make it as he thinks it's an awesome costume.

If and when you decide to get around to it, I'd suggest using the forums at Bikerscout.net as your best resource for research.  Take plenty of time on the research aspect, it'll be worth it in the end.

I'd love to dress up alot more then I can currently.  But because of money issues (broke student) and living in a tiny town in the middle of nowhere that would NOT understand, my hands are tied.  *sigh* I'm grateful for Halloween at least.
