Amazon issue
« on: January 09, 2007, 02:04:21 PM »
Briefly: I ordered a Cd on December 5 from Amazon marketplace. It has yet to arrive. It was supposed to be shipped by the 7th (per Amazon, who sent me an email), and even figuring in mail delays was supposed to be here by the 26th at the very lastest. I wrote the seller last night and said something to the effect of:

Hi,
I have yet to receive X (I included the receipt). The PO has no trace of it*. Please help me resolve the situation as quickly as possible.
Thank you,
XXXXXX

The response from the seller's husband was:
XXXXXX,
Please be patient. My wife had a baby less than a week ago. It should be there soon. if it isn't, we will give you a refund.
YYYYYYY

Does this seem a little off to anyone else? I appreciate how hard it must be to have a newborn at home, but what does that have to with something that happened a month before the baby was born? Also, I would call waiting a month to ask fairly patient behavior, so that sort of bugs me.

How should I respond? Any help most appreciated.

* It's a college PO, they wouldn't have sent it back.

Does Amazon have some process in place for when sellers fall through on what they've promised?  If it does, start it if you do not receive the item by the end of the week.

I can understand that it might be hard to get something in the mail the week after a new baby arrives. Which is why it make sense to, I don't know, send it in the 3+ weeks he had BEFORE the kid was born? By his e-mail it seems the kid didn't even arrive until after you should have received the item!

And he didn't say that he had shipped it, so I'd guess that he hasn't. File for a refund (by logging into Amazon and reviewing your previous orders, then clicking "Problem with this order?") and give him poor feedback. You've given him long enough to ship it.

Unfortunately, it happens. I've ordered a zillion used things from Amazon, but had my first bad experience in December with something I'd ordered for Christmas. I e-mailed the seller a few days before the deadline to ask if the item had shipped, and got no response. The deadline passed, I e-mailed again, no response. I filed for a refund and got it almost immediately because the seller apparently didn't contest the fact that they just hadn't bothered to send the book or tell me so. Luckily, my gift-giving still worked out.

In my opinion you've been more then patient. I would ask the seller for proof the item was shipped and if he can provided none I would leave negative feedback and file for a refund. Good luck.

My husband just got a refund from amazon on a marketplace item that he paid for "expedited shipping" to arrive on December 22nd. They s hipped it media mail on the 21st, and as of last Saturday it still hadn't arrived. He complained, explained the seller was no longer responding to emails, and asked for a refund. He did add that we'd notify them if the item actually showed up and would be willing to pay for the item but NOT the shipping.

They refunded us. Now I get to write some really NICE feedback for the seller!

Tell the seller that if you don't receive the CD by XX date, you will be filing a formal complaint with Amazon and requesting a refund.

Your fantasy response:

I had no idea that having a baby slowed down the United States Postal Service.  Sorry to have bothered.

Ahh the old using the kids for an excuse :) Its not acceptable. if she was so busy/sick/pregnant/sleep deprived that she wasn't able to actually sell CDs on amazon.com then she had no business doing so.

I can appreciate difficult life circumstances, but once she was aware that she was unable to fulfill the deal she should have either (a) bow out of the deal, sincerely apoligize, refund your money, and not sell again until the life issues were out of the way or (b) let you know about the delay and allow you to decide whether you want to wait or not or (c) have her husband or someone else fulfill her end of the deal.

However the non-option she chose by not communicating, not fulfilling, and not bowing out are not excusable infant or not!

Sorry that happened to you. I suggest you bow out of the transaction and purchase from someone more reliable. I wouldn't buy from someone that did business in that way.

How is a baby an excuse? It doens't take two people to send a letter, he can do it in five minutes while his wife looks after the baby, or vice versa.  Moreover, it sounded like this should have been shipped way before said baby was born.  And if he is too busy planning/having the baby then he shouldn't be selling things online in the first place - if he has time to sell things/check emails, he should be able to find time to send things.

If that was a word for word of his letter back, its really rude that he accused you of being impatient and then didn't even apologize.  Definetly report this to Amazon if you don't get your item SOON.

The baby is a reasonable excuse IF AND ONLY IF she delivered in a medically dire situation that has had them in the hospital for 20 hours a day for the past month.

If the baby was delivered at full term and they're just tired--well, tough cookies. That's why  most people plan to scale down their activities around the time of a birth.

Couldn't have phrased it better myself, MarinaDCA. What grated on me was the put-upon tone.

If there had been some medical issue, I would just let it go--life happens, and better they be with their baby than running errands. But they didn't say anything--just that she'd had a baby. What, is the US postal service dependent on her womb or something?

I did get a package slip in the mail today. Hopefully soon..

I got really sick of Amazon Marketplace at Christmas. I was trying to get hold of a book for DF which the main site said would take six weeks, so I bought one from a Marketplace seller.

Two days later I got an email saying I had been refunded because they didn't have the item. OK - so why did you list it? Never mind, I bought another one from another seller.

Three days pass, and I get an email saying I had been refunded because the item wasn't up to standards. It was listed as "Like New" and they've only just noticed this?

Obviously this wasn't a serious problem - more of an annoyance. At least they were refunding me. But it did mean that DF didn't get his book until last week - from the main Amazon site, who apparently got a new load in.

Sometimes it's just easier to go down to your local Best Buy or whereever and get a new CD or book or whatever it is.

I have not bought anything used from Amazon, but now I am scared to with all the negative stories on here.

To the OP, I would send one more email saying that baby or not, you want your item that you purchased. If they do not send it by the end of the business day, you will be filing for a refund and giving them a bad review.

We've purchased a number of used books from the Amazon Marketplace, and this is only our second bad experience with a nitwit. The rest of the time, it's been great.

I think the Christmas rush just made some sellers stupid.
