Didn't get to finish my first post.

In addition to The English Patient, I also can't stand The DaVince Code. YUCK! I had it figured out half-way through anyway. Tom Hanks could have done better. Good Will Hunting. Snore. Pirates of the Carabean 2, movie did not make since and had waaaaaaaaaaaaay too many sub-plots. Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow just looks cartoonish in this.

Also hate:

The Star Wars prequils. ESPECIALLY Revenge of the Sith! UGH! The writing and acting was HORRIBLE!! Still can't understand why this movie made so much money.

Any James Bond movie. They are all basicly the same and 007 is a man-whore!

THe Grapes of Wrath. could not get into that book.

Sienfeild. HATED that show. Basicly a bunch of cynical people who sit around a make fun of each other or lie to their significant others. Just stupid.

90210. God. just terrible tv. Any Aaron Spelling show. I think 90210 sucked cause his can't act daughter, Tori, was in it. DONNA MARTIN GRADUATES!! Jeeze.

Full House. Family Matters.

Any show or movie with too much bathroom humor. I like the first Austin Powers but the sequils were gross!

South Park. ew.

Maybe the other operagoers on the board can relate when I say that I think La Boheme overrated in one particular sense:  I don't think it makes a good first opera (that is, first opera to hear or attend), as many seem to think it does.  It's actually very hard to follow musically, and for a first opera I'd suggest a work with clearer differentiation between aria and recitative, such as Rigoletto or La Traviata; maybe Tosca is a good first Puccini opera, but not La Boheme.  (See Fred Plotkin's book Opera 101 for more.)

I hate Star Trek, all Star Trek, every Star Trek. And growing up in the house with my Trekkie brother I've seen them all. Ack.

Now you have completely RUINED the friendship! RUINED it, I tell you!!!

I'll be waiting for rotten tomatoes to be thrown at me after I post this, but I could never stand either The Christmas Story or...(drumroll)... It's a Wonderful Life.

I loved A Christmas Story, but I've never thought much of Wonderful Life, either. I just don't see what the big hoopla is about. To me, it's just an average, entertaining movie.

I don't like Toni Morrison's books (this will get you lynched in feminist circles).

I can't stand Tom Hanks.  I think he's trite and overblown.

Save me from Dave Matthews.  All his bloody songs sound the same.

Titanic.  Gag.

Gone With the Wind.  What a piece of racist, sexist over dramatic crap.  And don't say "well that's way it was when it was written/filmed".  That's no excuse.

Return of the Jedi.  I loved it when I was 9 and way to easily entertained.  My brain cells actually commit suicide when I try to watch it as an adult.
"POCKETS!"  From the new Dr. Who, "Runaway Bride" extra geek points if you laugh.

But the movie I HATE with a passion that everyone else loves and adores? MOULIN ROUGE. Oh my word. That is two hours of my life I'm never getting back. Anachronistic, oversentimental RUBBISH. Yuk! I love Ewan McGregor, and yes he can sing fine, but what was he thinking, being in that nonsense? It's like a school pantomime with a million-dollar budget. People say it's romantic. No, no, Pretty Woman is romantic. This is just silly. It's so sad and tragic? No, the only thing sad and tragic is that I wasted two hours watching it!

I hated Moulin Rouge too, and I felt the same way about those two hours.

Borat.  I'm pretty sure I was the only one in the theater NOT laughing my head off.  My darling darling BF (who offered to leave TWICE because he knew I wasn't enjoying it) described the look on my face this way:

"You know the way your mom would look when one of your friends did something REALLY dumb? Like she wished it was in HER power to discipline the kid? Well that's how you looked - like you wanted to put him in time out or take away his phone for a month."

For awhile we were saying that Sacha Baron Cohen is my arch nemisis but the ironic part is that I really liked him in The Ballad of Ricky Bobby so I've decided that it's actually Borat who is my nemisis.

P.S. I also hate Forrest Gump, Pretty Woman, Tom Petty....his voice just GRATES and Gwen Stafani

I have no desire to see Borat AT ALL. I know that I would hate it and spend the entire time grumpy. I cannot stand Sacha Baron Cohen's voice in character as Borat - I couldn't listen to him for two minutes, let alone two hours. No way, no how.

Oh, I forgot! I hated Friends, thought it was the dumbest show ever. And I hated Seinfeld. I hated Urkel (whichever show that was) and I hate Full House. And 90210.

Urkel was on the show Family Matters.

My husband hates Friends also. I thought it was okay, but I could take it or leave it.

Saw Brokeback Mountain, just didn't see what the big hype was all about. It was sooo hyped up as the best movie ever made, how it got robbed of the Oscar, blah, blah, blah. Please. It was a good movie, but it wasn't all that is was hyped up to be. And it certainly wasn't robbed of an Oscar, Crash was simply a more superior and solid film. It really turns me off how studios and producers are hyping up their movies into oblivion lately in order to get Oscar nods. For instance, I want to see Dreamgirls, but I'm getting so turned off by all the hype that is being made about it and Jennifer Hudson. I'll still go see it at a matinee next week, but I'm getting jaded just because all of the fuss made about it.

I read the story Brokeback Mountain, but I never saw the movie.

I'm a known slash fan, and even I didn't much like that movie. It's pretty, but how much scenery can one look at before there's a thing called a PLOT? And the only sex scene is rather boring. And you have to fastforward 42 minutes to get to it. ;D

I read the story before the movie was made, and I have to say, I didn't like the story either. The way things were described made me feel like I had to take a bath. And it was so depressing. Stories to slit your wrists by; no thank you. I'll stick to slash where people live (unrealistically, and I don't care!) happily ever after.

It was supposed to be depressing.

I admit that It's A Wonderful Life is one of my favorite movies. I'm a sappy sentimentalist.

I have to agree about Brokeback Mountain. I really enjoyed that movie, but Crash was the better film. I didn't think that Brokeback Mountain was the greatest movie ever made, and I have no idea what the fuss was about. I saw more guy on guy action watching Oz....it wasn't like the movie was obscene or anything. And the love story aspect? So sad...I cried my heart out at the end when Ennis had their shirts hanging together....
But still, I don't know if I'd call it Oscar caliber.
I have finally found the bar I can't get thrown out of....

I think that BBM was just boosted up and hyped because of all the politically-correctdness of it. Apparently, that is supposed to be all that it takes to win an Oscar in today's world.

Another over-rated piece of drivel IMHO? Thelma and Louise. No real plot or substance at all, just a couple of women beating up on guys from start to finish. I love I am woman, hear me roar movies just as much as anyone else, but they still have to be well-made. That and Waiting to Exhale I hated, too.

I can't stand the Monty Python movies or Austin Powers.  I also fell asleep during Good Will Hunting, The English Patient, and The Shining.  I've never liked Sienfeld, Stark Trek, or any of those teen soaps (i.e. 90210, Melrose Place, The O.C.).  I don't understand why women love Brad Pitt and Colin Ferrel.  I'm still trying to figure out how Gwyneth Paltrow won an Oscar for her "acting" abilities.

American Idol...or any reality TV.
