Seriously, I have read books that spoke to me and touched something in my soul, but I would be darned if I would run up to an author and say that.  Yeck!

It reminds me of this country song called "Maybe it was Memphis". The singer is telling her man she "Read about you in a Faulkner novel, saw you once in a Williams play". I thought to myself "Good God girl, RUN!! At best he's a drunk!!" Learn your authors before you start framing your life on one!!

I think the reason I dislike Oprah so much is because all the people on her show are such lemmings! They are basicly all the same! And have you noticed how she gushes and oohs and ahhs over all the celebs? And quite a few of the movies she's said would be Oscar's were tankers!

Remember that movie she did about 10 years ago...Beloved? I am SOOOOOOO glad that I didn't waste money on that one! I think the only movie she was ever in that did well and I like was The Color Purple.

Back to the Celeb thing...she ALWAYS gives them some kind of gift on the show. Ya know...I think they can afford to go out and buy it themselves! And the new car thing she did a couple of years back. THe people who got the car had to pay taxes on those. And title and insurance. I don't know about y'all but insurance on new cars is pretty expensive! So she really wasn't doing them any favors. If she really wanted to look generous, she could have paid all their taxes on the cars, got the plates and got the titles for them. Or gave the money to a worthy inner-city school.

one more movie she triumphed on that show was Angela's Ashes. God. Worst two hours of my life. Never get those two hours back!

I also find that I have trouble watching any tv series after the 5th season.  I guess I just get bored.

There's actually an entire website devoted to "jumping the shark" - a term used to indicate the exact moment a TV series goes past it's prime. For me, it's usually when the lead characters start getting married to each other or having babies - at that point, it's time to move on.

You know what annoys me about Oprah? She constantly interrupts her guests to talk about herself!

Hypothetical example:

Oprah: So you built a new house?
Guest: Yes; we decided to build it in...
Oprah (interrupting): I've wanted to build a new house but I can't find a good location.
Guest: Our location is good. We got...
Oprah: Although our house now is in quite a good place.
Guest: We wanted...
Oprah: And has a nice, long driveway. Is your driveway long?
Guest: No, we don't need to...
Oprah: My dogs like to run in the driveway at night.

etc.

EVERY interview she does follows this pattern. Guests don't usually even try to finish what they're saying, because it's obvious Oprah doesn't care and just wants to talk about herself.

I mean the woman "interviewed" NELSON MANDELA! You know, famous South African, prisoner of conscience for 27 years, first democractic president, Nobel Prize winner? She let him say maybe five complete sentences in the entire interview! The other 35 minutes were taken up with celebrities talking about how they met him (Whitney, Denzel, etc. - WE DON'T CARE!! We want to hear Madiba for ourselves, darn you!!!) and Oprah interrupting this great man.

Yes, she's given money to us for a school, etc. I still can't stand her.

I hear you.  I was pregnant when I saw this, all emotional, and lost it completely when missiles destroyed Godzilla's eggs!  Took 45 minutes to calm down and stop bawling.  Also, I know they had to re-do Godzilla because of copyrights, but...that monster was sad.

OT: I thought of you when I stumbled onto Godzilla, Mothra and Battra today in one of the later movies .
