I totally agree about scatology.  If not for that I would totally worship George Carlin.

War and Peace all the way Gileswench! I'm not for Anna Karenina either.

I almost hesitate to say this but the super popular books I intensely dislike are the Harry Potter books.
(Please don't flame me, I once nearly got beat up by a crew of fifteen year olds for saying this.)

edited because I read the whole thread and I see I'm not the only one who doesn't like Harry Potter.

I'm the kid who has this habit of dreaming
Sometimes gets me in trouble too
But the truth is I could no more stop dreaming
Than I could make them all come true.

The English Patient, Titanic, Million Dollar Baby, Johnny Cash Movie (what was it called, love Johnny hated the movie) Celine Dione, Mariah Carrey, Every new song playing on the alternative stations right now, what is that one about the wedding? Don't get it.

The Eagles, Jim Carrey, Dane Cook and Carlos Mencia. Home Improvement, for that matter Tim Allen.

I also don't like David Letterman, I think he's mean. But I'm going to stop now or I'm going to get surly, I need to start singing from the Sound of music to put back good thoughts.

I don't like Jim Carrey, Julia Roberts, Drew Barrymore, or Leonardo DiCaprio.

Likewise David Letterman or Rosie O'Donnell.

It's a Wonderful Life is the sappiest movie of all time.

I hate, hate, HATE "The Princess Bride."  Any quote from it almost makes me gag.

I don't like it either, and everyone thinks I'm weird because of that (many of my friends are geeks)!

Good Will Hunting was okay, but I don't see what the fuss was all about.

But the movie I HATE with a passion that everyone else loves and adores? MOULIN ROUGE. Oh my word. That is two hours of my life I'm never getting back. Anachronistic, oversentimental RUBBISH. Yuk! I love Ewan McGregor, and yes he can sing fine, but what was he thinking, being in that nonsense? It's like a school pantomime with a million-dollar budget. People say it's romantic. No, no, Pretty Woman is romantic. This is just silly. It's so sad and tragic? No, the only thing sad and tragic is that I wasted two hours watching it!

Titanic, Gone With the Wind, The Wizard of Oz beyond the first 15 minutes, and the only time I have ever fallen asleep in a movie theatre was during Sleepless in Seattle.  I like both of the main actors but that movie was just soooooooooooooo boring.

Brad Pitt - what's the big deal with him?  Every time I hear him lauded as the sexiest/hottest man on the planet I think what????!!!

No, no, Pretty Woman is romantic.

If it is a romantic comedy, I probably hate it. I hated "Pretty Woman" as well as "When Harry met Sally" and "While You Were Sleeping."

Other critically acclaimed or popular movies I did not like include "Little Miss Sunshine" and "The Piano."

Forrest Gump...HATED IT.

Also had trouble understanding the fuss about Harry Potter. I did find the books slightly interesting, but poorly written (although, I do understand they were written with younger people in mind).

I also find that I tend to dislike any movie that is hyped as "the best," and generally like the ones that are panned by critics.

My mom also hates the Princess Bride, and the rest of the family are convinced we can somehow change her mind.  So far, we haven't succeeded ;)  Regardless of what you think of the movie, I HIGHLY recommend the book.

Pretty Woman doesn't bother me until the end.  I mean, I'm all for people getting a second chance, but in this case, it's so icky.  I brought it up in a film class once, because I find the ending to be dissatisfying.  I don't know if this is true or not, but the professor said that in the original ending, the two characters go their separate ways.  Test audiences didn't like it, and they cheapened what could have been a decent movie.  Of course, I'll still watch it...

I really don't like Casablanca and Citizen Kane.  Maybe that makes me hopelessly plebeian, but I like my entertainment to be, you know, entertaining.  I also agree with whoever said they dislike Dickens.  Beware any author who got paid per word.  Serialized novels make for long, tedious reads.

I could never get into the Cosby Show. I just don't see the appeal.  They are sort of.... boring... I'd take the Bundys on Married With Children any day, but the Cosbys... YAWN...  Same with Seinfeld too! YAAAWN!

The English Patient  Yawwwwwnnn!
Star Wars    I fell asleep during the first one.  Haven't watched any of the others at all.
The Royal Tennenbaums  What a waste of a good cast!
Cold Mountain  Why Zellweger won an Oscar for this is a mystery to me.

Jim Carey, Wll Ferrell, David Letterman, Conan O'Brien...can't stand them.

Madonna, Christina Aguilera, Celine Dion....yuuukkk!

I'll have to get back to you on books.

Add me to the list that can't stand the Cosby Show.  I hated the way all Bill Cosby had to do was to just give a certain look and the audience would start laughing. Could never get into MASH or Star Trek either.

The Da Vinci Code.  One thing (in particular) struck me as really, really stupid...

One of the greatest geniuses of all time has a secret that must, at all costs, be kept from the Catholic Church.  He is a member of a Secret Society dedicated to that very goal.  So obviously, the best way to keep this secret is to paint a huge mural laden with coded references to that secret.  On the wall of the dining room of a monastary.  Where Catholic monks get to look at it several times a day.

Surely the best way to keep a secret is to...um...just shut up about it?
