That Titanic song by Celine Dion.
HATE it!

Aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!!!!  Just the thought of it is making my head explode.

I also can.not.stand. any of the "reality" shows or AI in any of its incarnations.  Bleh, bleh, bleh.

Southpark.

I'm probably going to get mushed for this...

I hated the new Pride and Prejudice with Keira Knightly.  I think they took a clever, witty story and dumbed it down to produce one of the most horribly boring bits of blah ever produced.  The scenery was pretty, but for heaven's sake--would someone please get the hair out of Keira's eyes!!!  Talk about misunderstanding the characters, their motivations, and completely missing the point.   >:(

I agree on Pride & Prejudice.  Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth are Elizabeth and Darcy.

What was so great about Lost in Translation?

I've read Brokeback Mountain  and seen the movie.  I hated both of them.
(DH liked the book so that's why we watched it. Afterwards, he was like: "For short story it was a bl**dy long movie" )

For theatre folk:  I have to confess I can't STAND Neil Simon or David Mamet. "Oliver" makes me want to stick pins in my eyes.  No, I'm wrong I want to stick pins that sickly little orphan's eyes.  I sat through "Starlight Express" praying someone would fall over their skates and "Phantom of Opera" wishing someone would trip Christine. (And I love the book/ various movies etc etc)

But the worst thing I can think  (please don't flame me) is Harry Potter.

I've read all the books as DH use to be a fan, but just don't get it.

I loved that movie, but a lot of people I know hated it just like you did. It has a really different, unique style of filmmaking that a viewer will either really love or really hate.

Wow!  I've loved Oliver! since I was 13.  (It was the first musical I ever saw.)  I also love Neil Simon, especially The Odd Couple and -- my favorite 20th century comedy -- The Sunshine Boys.  And The Phantom of the Opera is a guilty pleasure of mine.

Edited to add more theatre:  I don't really like Noel Coward's plays; the humor is too arch for my taste.  I much prefer Oscar Wilde.
I think the play The Elephant Man is just very slightly ovverated, even though I have great interest in and admiration for the play's subject and the movie of the same title might possibly be my favorite film of all time.

I.hate.LOST.

I can't stand that show. I never liked it from day one, for many of the reasons that critics are whining about now. Other things on my list include Dave Matthews, Grease, and Malcolm in the Middle.

Above all, I can't stand people who only watch movies or shows because they're critically acclaimed. You all know them, the movie/TV snobs that feel they need to intellectualize EVERYTHING and think that being pretentious is cool. I actually had to tell a friend to (Oo, I just used a rude phrase that the moderators won't be happy about. ) when he went on for hours, then days, about how I liked "Armaggedon". Yeah, that movie with Liv Tyler and Ben Affleck and the Aerosmith song. So what if I like it? Michael Bay movies are fun because they're mindless and have lots of explosions. This friend, and some others, are the same people who are convinced that I like Lost because... who can possibly not like it? Oy vay.

Sorry, I digress...

I can't remember who said "The Piano" but thank you!  My friends and I had a New Year's tradition of going to First Night, sitting up most of the night after drinking and laughing, hitting a cute little restaurant for breakfast and then seeing whatever the "hot" movie was that year.

Well, the year it made its debut, we chose The Piano.  We all loved period movies.  Some among us were taken by Sam Neill.  And there were those who loved New Zealand.  We sat thru the flick in utter silence.

On our way out, we dared not to look at each other because, it turned out, we were all thinking "I must be dumb because I thought it was boring and didn't get it."  Finally, the friend with the biggest mouth whispered "Is it just me or was that--?"  We then discussed (in relief) how much we hated the movie, but kept our voices down because we thought the crowd around us would kill us.  Until we got into the ladies' room...where the topic of conversation went like this "Is it just me or--?"  EVERYONE was shaking their head and saying "I have never seen such a pile of garbage in my life"  It was as if someone had shouted "The Emporer HAS NO CLOTHES!!!!!!"

Since then, whenever a group of ladies start going on about how woooonderfuuuuullllll and seeeeeeexy it was and how meeeeeaaaaaaannnnnnniiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnggggggffffffuuuuulllllllll The Piano was, I think of that room full of women saying "Was it just me or was that--?" and I smile.

Also wanted to add that I am an English major who would just as soon burn "Catcher in the Rye" as read it.

Want to stick pins in my eye (or let the bullies who used to try doing that to me do it) whenever I hear the song "Black Horse and Cherry Tree."  (I love the tune.  I love the vocal performance.  It's the freaking WORDS I hate...and BTW, if you have a broken heart, wouldn't the money you could make selling a talking horse ease the heartache a bit?)

 I never got "Seinfeld".

Love ghost stories and what I consider "real" horror stories (anything written before slasher flicks took over the box office) and despise what passes for horror these days.

Slept through Quiz Show.

And I saw "Once Upon a Time In Mexico" only because I was promised Johnny Depp in tight black leather.  SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER:  I didn't know it was going to be Johnny Depp in tight black leather with his eyes DRILLED OUT.  (Otherwise, convoluted, boring shootemup--ho hum.)

Does anyone else out there think that Tom Cruise needs a bath and a shampoo.  That someone should tell Matthew McConaughy that Barbie's ex-boyfriend Ken wants his face back?  Or that Jennifer Anniston is still doing "Rachel" no matter what part she plays?

And now I will back away from the keyboard because I am getting way too much pleasure from this....

I am a HUGE, avid Lost fan, but I don't begrudge anyone for not liking it. Different strokes for different folks. I've had sooo many people tell me that I should watch Grey's Anatomy, but from what I have seen and read, I know I wouldn't like it. It looks very annoying and stupid, with idiot characters. And last weekend I rented 'Snakes on a Plane'. I usually don't like trashy movies and consider myself one of those intellectual good-movie snobs, but I've always had this thing for those creature-feature movies. I'll admit I watch the ones on the Sci-Fi channel a lot.

The English Patient, Fargo, Titanic, The Notebook, the Clint Eastwood one with the cheating (forget the name).

My DH thought there wasn't nearly enough nudity to carry The English Patient.  We both nearly fell asleep in it.

The friends who can't accept the idea of anyone disliking Lost? They're the same people who lecture me frequently on liking Grey's Anatomy. The person who does that the most? She hasn't seen it. Not a single episode. I watched half of the first season of Lost before giving up on it. Therefore, I feel like I can at least say, "I watched it, I tried to enjoy it, but I just didn't." Not watching a show and giving me crap about watching it? Not cool. She also frequently rants on how she doesn't like Star Trek. I just roll my eyes until she literally throws a fit in my apartment where I'm watching it and demands that I change the channel. She could also leave, but that's not really something she's capable of conceiving. Yet, she's constantly bringing her Lost DVDs and saying, "Oh, let's all watch Lost!" Argh.

I enjoy the critically acclaimed stuff (although I thought Brokeback Mountain was just another love story... a good story, but certainly not worth the hype it received), but I also enjoy things that are fun and mass-produced. Yet, I receive constant badgering about it. I've gotten so defensive about it that when I once said I was going to be watching Grey's Anatomy, I prefaced it with, "If you don't like it, I do not care. Just keep it to yourself." The person I was speaking to raised his eyebrows and looked really surprised. Yet, he's the same person I told to (Oo, I just used a rude phrase that the moderators won't be happy about. ) about the Armaggedon bit and he was surprised that I frankly didn't want to hear it from him anymore.

There's enjoying good movies, having preferences/opinions, and there's being an absolute jerk about it. As you can probably tell, I'm pretty tired of the ones I'm surrounded by.

I thought I posted this before, but can't find it anywhere.  If it's a duplicate, sorry!

I cannot stand the sound of Alison Krause's voice.  It sounds like she is singing with a mouth full of mucus.

My mother loves Alison Krauss...I'd rather drive a nail in my ear.
And "Whiskey Lullaby"??? Talk about music to kill yourself by!
I have finally found the bar I can't get thrown out of....
