I thought I posted this before, but can't find it anywhere.  If it's a duplicate, sorry!

I cannot stand the sound of Alison Krause's voice.  It sounds like she is singing with a mouth full of mucus.

I don't like a lot of female singers.  Either they sound like their mottoes are "I'm sexy but I'm also a little girl" or they could do better but sing dumbed-down music.  I infinitely prefer to listen to male voices.

I also cant stand Oprah or her over-rated book club! I tried to read a couple of the books featured on there but....not. All. of. them. sucked.

I couldn't agree more.  I especially hate it when Oprah "discovers" books like Anna Karenina.  Because nobody knew it was classic literature before Oprah enlightened us.  I bet Tolstoy would really be thrilled about the "Oprah's Book Club" sticker on his previously undiscovered gem.  Ugh.

Ok, time to join the harangue!

Lost in Translation--fiance and I tried to watch it. We got about 45 minutes in and I was DYING of boredom. (Literally---another 2 minutes and I would have keeled right over.) I asked fiance, "Are you as utterly bored as I am?" Fiance:"Yup." Me: "Do you want to turn this off?" Fiance: "Yup." Click. (This movie came highly recommended by a friend who has since recommended several other movies that fiance and I detest. We now know that our taste in movies is clearly drastically different than hers--if she likes it, we avoid it!)

Moulin Rouge-made it through 10 minutes before turning it off.

For that matter...

Nicole Kidman, in general. Every movie she's done in the last 10 years she's played some wispy, breathy little woe-be-me character.

Dicken's writing style. His storylines, I love. His writing style puts me to sleep. Just give me the cliffs notes...

Most librarians will tell you they cringe when Oprah annoints a new book as it means we have to buy an additional fifty copies of the book, forty of which will be stolen and the rest will waste space on our shelves for years to come.  Also, we are all in agreement in wishing Ope would choose a book that has some, I don't know, LAUGHS in them and maybe a happy ending.  She made such a big deal out of it when one of the books she chose has a racy sex scene in it...I'd like a happy ending and a joke.  Maybe Dave Barry?  Or Janet Evanovich.  Stephanie Plum is literary isn't she?

I hate Lost and 24.  I detest Everybody Loves Raymond.  They are all so mean to each other, and I can't stand it.

I also hate The Great Gatsby.  My high school English teacher butchered it. I love to read, if I had read the book on my own, I probably would have enjoyed it.

I've read a few of her selections, they all have the same theme. My gut reaction to seeing her sticker is: Oh crap, another "trimumph of the Human Spirit" bore. And I was annoyed when she "discovered" 100 Years of Solitude. Somehow or other, getting Oprahsized seems to cheapen good books.

My mother loves Alison Krauss...I'd rather drive a nail in my ear.
And "Whiskey Lullaby"??? Talk about music to kill yourself by!

I love "Whiskey Lullaby", but I've got this weird affinity for story songs with a death in them: "El Paso", "The Beaches of Cheyenne", "Where Oh Where Can My Baby Be?", "Leader of the Pack". Sick - I know.  :-\

My secret shames.  I do not like or have refused to have anything to do with the following:

1. Seinfeld-I cannot see the humor
2. Curb Your Enthusiam-see above
3. Desperate Housewives-I'm allergic to ABC, goes back to Urkel on Friday nights in the 90's
4. The DaVinci Code in any way shape or form
5. Harry Potter after Book 5-J.K. twisted her own world so badly that I hardly recognized it
6. The Harry Potter movies-the books are far too detailed and complex to translate onto the big screen
7. Borat-the preview alone had me climbing the walls

I've tried to add my own dislikes to this thread about fifteen times now.

Suffice to say that I am apparently such a curmudgeon that listing everything I hate that everyone loves would take me ages.  ;D

Oh, and for the record, as one with a B.A. in English, I HATE HATE HATE HAAAAAAAAAATE Oprah's Book Club. Just because you read an Oprah's Book Club selection does not make you a great literati.

I've read a few Oprah books that weren't bad. But the majority? Ick. I hate Toni Morrison....
I hate Oprah. I think she is a pretentious snot. I'm suprised she hasn't had "I know Maya Angelou" tattooed on her forehead, she cannot go a week without dropping Ms Angelou's name. Or any other name. Her show is ridiculous and irrelevant to just about anyone who doesn't poop nickels.
And her book club dinners? Oh God, if I was the author of one of those books I'd be driving a salad fork in my eye to get away from the vapid, sucking chest wound people who she invites to those things....
I have finally found the bar I can't get thrown out of....

Auntie V, the people who tend to watch Oprah and/or read her "book club" selections tend to BE sucking chest wounds... ;D

Oh, GOD yes.  I hate that phrase.  I want to scream "Your liiiiiiiffffeeee must be baaaaadddddddd!!!!!"

Seriously, I have read books that spoke to me and touched something in my soul, but I would be darned if I would run up to an author and say that.  Yeck!

Basically any sitcom - especially those that feature the lazy, clueless comedian Dad.
Desperate Housewives, Lost, Grey's Anatomy, American Idol, Survivor to name a few.  I can respect that my friends and co-workers like these shows, but when I say that I don't watch them, quite telling me how I HAVE TOO!  I already have 4 or 5 shows I like to watch and anything more is just too much TV for me.

I also find that I have trouble watching any tv series after the 5th season.  I guess I just get bored.
