Another Gawd-Offel story
« on: January 09, 2007, 05:05:59 PM »
In the work section I posted about my neighbor, Mrs. Gawd-Offel, who yelled at me for clearing snow off her driveway in a way that was not acceptable to her. A few days ago, I learned about something she did to another neighbor. My other neighbor, Mary, is twenty-one and a friend of mine, despite our age difference. She was married at age eighteen, and had a baby a year after. Unfortunately, things didn't work out, and they are getting divorced. Her husband moved out a few weeks ago, and took the baby with him. This was a mutual decision, as Mary knows her ex can take better care of the child. She is sad, but she knows it is the right decision. Anyway, Mrs. Gawd-Offel found out about this, and told Mary that she was a bad mother, that the baby would grow up hating her, and that she was selfish. She made Mary cry! If Mary were really selfish, she would have kept her son just to spite her husband, not cared for him, and spent the child support on new clothes. Mary used to think Mrs. Gawd-Offel was just annoying (like when she scolded me for calling Mary by her name rather than Mrs. Smith). I still can't believe someone would yell at someone for doing the right thing. Thanks for reading.

Wow.  She is just living up to the name you've given her, isn't she?

I feel for your friend.  Give Mary a hug for me and tell her to ignore that horrible woman.  She doesn't know anything anyway.

That woman sounds ... well ... gawd-offel!

As for Mary, good for her for making the right decision. My heart goes out to her. A friend of mine was in a similar situation 11 years ago when she got divorced. She moved to Michigan & left her son with his father in NJ where there was a lot of family & more people able to care for him. Even though it was hard it was the right choice for her, too, and she now has a great relationship with both the son & his father, even after mom & dad both remarried. I hope it works out just as well for your friend.

Poor Mary.

I'm sure your assurances that she's doing the right thing help, but the remarks and judgement from Gawdoffel will sting regardless

My mother in law gave her sons (hubby and BIL) to their father when they divorced for precisely the same reason. And it was stepmother in law who ran her down about it TO MY HUBBY AND BIL. Now stepmother in law is infertile and always wanted children and never would have had them if not for mother in law making the sacrifice. But she never missed an opportunity to demonize their mother, until a few years ago when hubby finally blew up at her about it.
I have finally found the bar I can't get thrown out of....
