Strange AND eerie.
« on: January 09, 2007, 08:10:21 PM »
I gave up on the dental clinic where they never answer the phone.  Instead I found a clinic run by the the state department of public health.

The building it's in is located wayyy out in a nearby town. It used to be a turberculosis sanitarium, which is why it's out in the country.  Now it's a long term care facility and has dental and vision clinics.  They have no ER.

Anyways, the place is just lovely in that old historical kind of way. You look out the window and you can see the old nursing school, which is vacant now.  Just imagine the stories that building could tell.

The staff is so nice and they charge sliding scale.

They even have current magazines neatly arranged in the waiting room.

Now here's the weird part.  Despite all this appeal, I have never seen another patient.  :o There are employees bustling around and the cafeteria is busy, but I have never seen another patient.  I always have a hard time getting an appointment and the phones are always ringing, but a live person?  Nope.

I even mentioned this to the dentist, she laughed and assured me they have them.

Is this a Twilight Zone episode waiting to happen?

Ew, I don't like that either.

It was like the time I got on the freeway at 5pm and there weren't any other cars...Freaked me out.

Sheesh.....isn't that what we all hope for when we go to the Doc/Dentist?  :D

Actually though there are times when I go to see my Endocrinologist that I don't see another patient. But there are also times I see the patient who was before me leaving or maybe I see the patient whose after me as I leave. This DR is highly respected in his field and new patients wait months for an appointment. Truly though I appreciate the fact that he doesn't have the usual cattle call going on that you see at so many other offices.

That is just so eerie! I nearly had goosebumps!*L*

You should ask them next time as to where all the other patients are?

Perhaps if its a place not in high demand they can space out their appointments,so it seems like no one else is around.

Weird though.

Even if it wasnt an overly busy place..you would still think that there would be a few other patients around?

Forgive me please, but it's sanatorium....my husband works in the sanatarium (mental hospital)....
Maybe it's not fixed up, and there's no staff and there's no one there but you, in a rundown building that is channeling a parallell universe only when you're there....mwahahahaha!!
I hate being the only person out, or in a place. Gives me the willies. Like the poster who mentioned that freeway thing....I hate that!

I live near the river and there is a long and beautiful riverwalk where you can ride you bike, skate, walk...etc. And there are also parks and benches and picnic tables, you get the idea.

One early evening around twilight my friend and I were sitting on a bench talking and looking at the river. There were kids running around, bikers, walkers. The place was pretty busy. So we were deep into our discussion for about 20 minutes when I happened to glance around. The entire place was deserted. Not a soul in sight. It was like they disappeared on the spot. So we sat there and was freaked out by it, then my friend saw a "skeleton" of some sort come out of the water towards us. I didn't see it because I was looking at him while I was talking. And the look he got on his face was scary enough. His face turned white and his mouth opened wide. We jumped up and ran a good 1/2 mile back to the car. Never once running into another person.

Okay, when I first read this I thought it was very eerie b/c @ my dentist there are always TONS of patients around.

Theni remembered when my sons were on medicaid I took them to the dentist @ the health department. I never saw another patient there either. I know they had them b/c it was like pulling teeth (har har) to get an appointment there. But I never saw one. Maybe it's a health dept thing?

BTW, our dentl office was in the same building as the health dept and social services, a relatively new, modern building in the middle of town.

Aaaaaaa!!! You guys are freaking me out!!!!  I love it though. Even though I'll be up all night long.

I hate when I go into a convenience store and there's no one in there.  I always think that it's going to be the next hit on the Killer Armed Robbery list!

What if you went to an antique shop that wasn't really there and got waited on by a dead guy you thought was alive? ;) (That's part of what happens in another story I wrote.)

" but it's sanatorium....my husband works in the sanatarium (mental hospital)..."

I was going by what their home page said...don't tell anyone I used the wrong word.  It would ruin my reputation...

Although now it's used to house patients with dementia, among other things.

That's okay.  People call me the spelling police.

Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

No, no, nothing like that - he's not an evil dead guy antique dealer. :)
