Threads that Have Disappeared
« on: February 09, 2018, 06:34:03 PM »
There were two threads (or rather, three) that I used to especially love

- "What Receptionists Wish Everyone Knew" (actually, there were two of these)

- "Signs you have a bad boss"

All were really long, as I recall.

However, for several years now I haven't been able to find them, searching Ehell or Googling.

They were probably archived.

Same archives as where the early stories (before there was a forum) are?

No, I think they're just moved to an inaccessible part of the forum.  The large number of posts was causing performance problems.

A few years ago we had to restructure the database to stop some of the major glitches that were happening. Since the database was HUGE, the decision was made to delete threads older than some now forgotten time frame rather than spend many hours backing up and then re-installing it all.

There is a possibility that some threads exist in www.thewaybackmachine.org archives but you may need a specific URL to the thread to find it.

Beg your pardon, but that is not the right link - it's one of those ad link urls. The correct link is:

http://archive.org/web/

then type in etiquette hell, or the whole url for the main ehell site, and it will bring up a time line. Click on the year you want, and it will bring up a monthly calendar (you have to scroll down a bit). Then you pick a date that it saved. After that, you can click on links but I don't see that you can do a search for the particular thread. The home page says you have to enter a url or words related to the site's home page, so I think you would have to do a search through the index/threads.

Tried it - apparently not all the pages were "saved" - some links worked, a lot more of them didn't (in a short search).  Time to go to bed, not play "find the thread", though.  Durn being a responsible adult anyway...

I mistakenly added "the".    www.waybackmachine.org will automatically take you to archive.org.

http://www.etiquettehell.com:80/etitanic.htm - the original photos & white print on black screen...it still astounds me.

A link to the true Titanic wedding story (bridesmaids dresses that vanished from history) - for those who've never read it...
