What does "Personal Shower" mean to you?
« on: October 11, 2017, 11:37:20 AM »
I'm actually going to ask one of the hostesses, whom I think I will be seeing Friday night, to clarify what is meant but I was curious what Ehell thinks it means. I checked with another invitee and she doesn't really know either.

I kind of think I might have an idea, and like I said, I will ask to find out for sure, but you know, it probably would have been nice to actually specify what it means. That is, unless it's plainly obvious to anyone but me (and my friend)!

So... What does "Personal Shower" mean to you?

Is it for a bride or an expectant mom?

If it was for an expectant mom, I would think it would mean that the gifts are to be for mom, rather than baby.  If it is for a bride, I would expect that the gifts are meant to be for her as opposed to the household.  Like a nice way to say it's a lingerie shower.
After cleaning out my Dad's house, I have this advice:  If you haven't used it in a year, throw it out!!!!.

Coming from a country where showers are either weather-related or bathroom facilities, I would be completely confused by your question...  ;)  ;D

To me, a personal shower means that you gift the bride with lingerie, bath products, naughty stuff.

Maybe dependant on the context of the phrase, but I would hazard a guess at lingerie type shower like some previous posters. Weird way to phrase it though, I think they will have a few people confused with that one. Were there any other clues in the invitation?

I have no doubt. It is lingerie, perfume, bath products, candy, wine. Some joker always seems to bring a sex toy or s3x manual if itís a bride, but not so much for a new mother. (Midwest US, Ď60s and Ď70s is where My experience are from.)

A bridal shower that is specified as personal implies gifts that would be for the bride's use versus household type items. Typical items I've seen are lingerie (if you are close enough and comfortable giving that type of item... it doesn't have to be racy), spa or nail gift certificates, Bath and Body works type of stuff, candles, a comfy sleep shirt... think of it as things to pamper the bride. You can even do a cute picture frame, or one of those "I'm the bride tshirts".

Thanks. I kinda figured lingerie which I'm not too confident about buying for someone else so I'm very glad I asked because maybe I can go in on the gift with a couple of other people and do a spa gift card instead! Thanks for that idea!

To answer your question, there is nothing at all on the invitation (it came via evite) except the title Personal Shower, who it's for, date, time and location. I will confirm with the hostess on Friday, but in the meantime, I'm going to consult some fellow invitees to see about doing a joint gift.

I never heard of a personal shower and wouldn't feel comfortable giving "racy" gifts just in case that's not what it means. A gift card for mani/pedi or one of the other gifts mentioned above seems indulgent yet safe.

I googled the phase and among the usual gifts, I saw someone mentioned they gave the bride a gift certificate to a dry cleaner to clean and pack her wedding dress. I thought that was very nice and unique.

This is my experience.

Not automatically sexy--just "about her, personally," and not about "the household."

So no dishes, plates, etc.

But "pamper yourself" stuff, or things to do w/ her personal interests.
Pajamas, robes, slippers.
Cosmetics case, really good manicure kit, personal grooming things that are slightly indulgent.

Or maybe things to do with what she might want on the honeymoon (like, a nice new toiletries case; or something to use to wash bras while traveling; that sort of thing--what do YOU pack for a vacation that your husband would not?)

In a way, anything that would work for a birthday present will work for this.

I love the wedding-dress-cleaning-storage gift idea!

This is what I think, too.  Good ideas from everyone, too.  Have fun!

I had the same reaction. :)

OP here with an update in case anyone is interested.

The shower was yesterday. Five of us went in on a Massage/Spa gift card so thank you for that idea as it was E-Z!

Some other gifts she received:
- a basket with liquid soap type items and white towels
- a couple of James Avery charms to do with the wedding (bride is apparently a James Avery fan)
- a night shirt with a cutesy wine quote on it
- a couple of personalized cutting boards (from different people). One of them was etched with the couple's names and some art that was taken from the invitation -- a very lovely idea.
- a suitcase (from her MIL-to-be, as apparently the groom had done something to her old suitcase)

That's all I remember.
Anyway, thanks again for the feedback here!
