Newbie here. Take off of the "Doesn't He/She make you want one" thread.

Hi, I'm a newbie here!  I've actually lurked for a while now, and thought it was time I registered and posted.

My question is a take off of the "make you want one" baby thread.  What kind of reply do you give to people that ask you when are your grown kids going to make you a grandma?  I don't want grandkids!  Neither of my 2 kids want kids of their own (but I do know how fast that can change!)

People can not seem to handle the fact that here we (hubby and I) are not  crying into our wheaties every morning because we don't have grandbabies!  It seems like no matter what reply you give, they have a snappy comeback for it.

And where in Hades is it written that you are suppose to want grandkids as soon as your own kids leave home??   :-X

NotCinderell:
The best answer I can think of is, "That's up to them, and I wouldn't presume to meddle in their affairs."  It's not rude, and it does put the person asking in their place because, obviously, they *would* presume to meddle in others' affairs.

Mini:
They way they ask it, they (friends, co-workers, family) don't care what my kids want, they just wonder why we aren't pining away for grandkids!

And the one's asking don't care if they are meddling in other's affairs.  Just gripes the heck out of me!

"When I look as old as you do."

Evil Kewpie!!  :o  Shame on you!! Back in your cage, now!!

Ahem. I am so, so sorry about that.

As this is a none-of-their-business question, perhaps you could go with the time honored Bean Dip response.

"That's not our decision to make. Have you tried this wonderful Bean Dip?"
"Whenever they're good and ready. Is this Bean Dip homemade?"
"I'm sure they'll let us know. Could you pass the Bean Dip please?"

Cyndi:
If the person asking is a man, I'd be tempted to jump in before my mom and say, "Oh, are you volunteering to help make that grandkid?" and then I would bat my eyes.

I'm evil :P
