Maybe we should also have a folder for lines that are not to be used, such as "I'm sorry you feel that way."

Or "Everything happens for a reason."

How about *blank stare* and/or *raised eyebrow* as responses?

Both work for me in the right situations.

Yes! I agree. And we could add "I'm not being rude, I'm just being honest" to that list.

Oh, and "Well, she was old/lived a long time/something of that nature" when an older person dies.  As if we're not allowed to grieve if the person is beyond a certain age when they die.

Excuse me, but I miss my grandparents terribly.  I don't care if one of them WAS 96 when he died - does that change the fact that I had 30-something years with him - loving him and knowing him?  I didn't want to hear that it was time for him to go.  :(

In addition to that is telling the grandchildren that they're not allowed to feel grief "like the real children of the person does."

Also all the terrible things that get said after a miscarriage or a child's death:

1) It was G-d's will
2) It's for the best
3) You can have another child

And that old classic horror: "It must be nice..."

I'm confused.  Would the story be posted here in this folder or in one of the regular folders and then moved here by the moderator/host?

OK, I'm clueless.  What is wrong with "I'm sorry you feel that way."?

It has a very snotty ring to it, especially when it's used in lieu of a genuine heartfelt apology, because it does not admit any responsibility and expresses no true remorse.

Well, personally, I like it, and I'm sorry you feel that way.  ;)  /sarcasm off

Ah, I get it now.  Like the so called "apology" I got when someone attacked me on another thread & it turned out they had their facts wrong.

If a salesperson or other customer service person is rude and sarcastic, "You seem upset with this transaction.  Is there someone else who can help me?"

What happened to the "No" folder?  That was going to be my favorite one!
