You handled it really well. That "mother" sounded loopy.

Ew. Some people are unbelievable.

I know a woman like that though...her youngest daughter was spoiled rotten through her toddler and preschool days because she was a "baby." I had a doll that was brand new and my favorite toy in the world....he's still on display in my bedroom now as an adult! My friend's mom used to tell the "baby" that if she behaved, she could play with my doll. No, she couldn't!

Luckily, by the time she reached adulthood, the "baby" was much more mature than her mother and had learned right from wrong.

How sad. Well there's how entitlement brats learn how to be entitlement kings/queens when they grow up.

You were way more polite to the mom than I was.

Clueless parents abound.  When my firstborn was baptized at one week old we invited some friends and family members to a small celebration afterwards.  One of the women guests informed me that she told her 4-year-old daughter that she would be able to hold the baby.  Not happening!!!! I was not allowing a four-year-old, no matter how sweet she was and how much I liked her, to carry around my newborn. What are people like this using for brains???

That has got to be one of the most unbelievable things I've ever heard of! Good grief, where do these people come from?

You handled it better than I would have. MY response would have been along the lines of "You promised him, YOU go buy your own!"

Wow, that's...just wow. I don't believe that I've ever seen or heard of anything so blatant and horrifying before.

But at least the child followed the OP's reasoning and showed some empathy. Even if his wonderful parental unit keeps trying to foul him up, he might not be hopeless. :)

Yeah, I hope the boy will remember what I said.

I've got 'em on the list--I've got 'em on the list;

                    'em be missed.

Don't end up on my list ;)

You did beautifully with the boy, Ko-Ko.  The mother could have used a right-hook.  But hey...live and learn!  ;)

LOL said so perfectly!  PODDY MCPOD!  LOL!

Oh, I can see it now!  Teen gets arrested for grand theft auto....Mom to cops as they haul off her precious, "BUT I PROMISED HIM A GRAND AM!!!!"  That is, if the lesson you tried to teach him does not stay with him.  Sad to say, the kid seemed to realize what he did was wrong but with a 'mother' like that, that lesson probably won't stick with him.

I cant believe that once you spoke with the little boy and he understood that the mom still tried to get you to let him play with it.  I have never encountered people like the ones I hear of on the forums.,
