Txt me not
« on: January 13, 2007, 09:36:09 PM »
My daughter nominated a friend I will call Mary for E-Hell status today.

Mary invited DD to dinner with her last night as DD was home for a visit and hadn't seen Mary for a while.  DD said Mary spent the entire dinner Texting to other friends.

When DD said "Hey, we are having dinner together.."  Friend Mary said "Well it is not like I am taking on the phone so it isn't rude."

As DD said to me "It is exactly as if she were talking on the phone."

So I think it is a slam dunk personally.  Mary is in E-Hell.

Burn, Mary, burn.  DD should cross Mary off her "friend" list.

Ohhh, that is one of my pet peeves! I hate it when people do that while I'm talking to them!  >:(

DD would have been justified to leave, informing Mary that she could contact her when she was less busy.

sometimes i have to text during dinner when I go to dinner with my friends but they know it's because that is how I keep in contact with the babysitter when I'm gone and it's easier than having her or him call every two minutes because they cant find the cups/soap/diapers, etc...So I hope it's not that bad.

That at least makes sense.  Mary is single, no children and just 'chatting' with other friends.

I used to get irritated with a former friend of mine who would invite me over to hang out and then spend the whole time watching TV. Mind you, this wasn't, "Hey come over and lets watch this show we both like." It was me sitting there while she watched a re-run cop drama waiting to resume our conversation during the commercial breaks. ::)

I've inadvertently whittled down my social circle due to similar circumstances.  It's funny how many "bestest friends" fall by the wayside when you are no longer willing to put up with rubbish.

That is very different and not rude at all, in my opinion.

I've never knitted anything I could recognize when it was finished.  Actually, I've never finished anything, much to my family's relief.

You know, a lot of times our behavior is modeled on the behavior of our friends as well as our parents. Kudos to your mothering skills for daughter knowing that Mary was being tacky and rude.
I have finally found the bar I can't get thrown out of....

I'm sure someone, somewhere, has figured out why cell-phone addicts find the people who aren't there more interesting to talk to than the people who are.

If not, I'd be happy to take several million dollars in federal grants to 'discover' that some people are rude, boorish, and very silly indeed! ;D
