Judith Krantz novels.  I love 'em.  I haven't read the most recent, but Scruples, Princess Daisy, Mistral's Daughter, I'll Take Manhattan, and 'Til We Meet Again are my faves.  They're like old friends- I re-read them when I get blue.

Ummmm Venus? How can Latin music be lowbrow? I mean, I'm sure there are some things that aren't considered the greatest, but the whole shebang? Has she never heard of Segovia? Or Santana (okay, not strictly Latin but you see what I'm driving at...)
That comment was ignorant in the extreme. I'm not a Latin music expert by any stretch of the imagination, but I know there are Latin artists and genres that are considered to be seriously fine art. And I do love Segovia....
I have finally found the bar I can't get thrown out of....

It is ignorant.  She has a very unfortunate prejudice due to having lived in Washington Heights for a long period of its worst time.

She has no idea what she's missing by not being willing to attend any of Pablo's or Alejandro's concerts.

Segovia is actually classified as "classical", which defies ethnicity.  I don't know whether she relates to anything like that, nor do I really know her opinion of flamenco, which is a classification unto itself.

I have always thought of Latin music as being anything from Latin America, which excludes Spain.

Sorry about the Segovia slip up. I told you I was nowhere near an expert.
I love Flamenco dancing, it's unbelievable to watch. The music took a little getting used to for me (I'm of Irish descent, so you can see the HUGE difference there) but once I got it, it's really something else.

I'm German on the one side and multi-British on the other, so flamenco wasn't in my genes, as it were.  However, my soul craved it and that's what led to my learning Spanish and ultimately to the avatar photo on my posts.

Flamenco dancing is amazing self-expression, and not for cowards.  I haven't done it in a while, but I do need to get my knees back up to it.
