Wow

Did you have to pay up?

No. I never received a letter from the insurance company acknowledging that I was not involved or responsible in anyway (as I had requested), but they never pressed the issue. I assume they contacted the police department and verified what I told them - that I was not involved, not responsible, and the police had dropped the issue with me.

CathyF,

I also was accused of a hit and run (must be something about MN cops  ;D ).  I was about 17 at the time.  The car next to me had parked so close that my friends had to crawl through the driver side to get into the car.  I barely bumped the car as I was backing up (my speedometer didn't even wiggle and I had my foot on the brake the whole time).  We got out to look to see if there was any damage.  None.  So we left.  I got home and my mom asked if I had something to tell her.  Nope.  Turns out someone said I did a H&R.  Went to the cops, told them what happened.  The guy said I did over $1000 worth of damage.  Not possible.  The cops took a look at my car, saw how upset I was and said that I couldn't have done that kind of damage (plastic bumpers).  They said they'd tell the insurance company.  Never heard anything about it again.  Some people.
