What's For Dinner?
« on: January 14, 2007, 06:45:00 PM »
I'm always interested in what my fellow cooks are feeding their families (or selves) for dinner as it can lead to good recipe ideas or tips.
So how 'bout it hellions? What's fo dinner?
We're having turkey breast, mashed potatoes and gravy and peas....
I have finally found the bar I can't get thrown out of....

We are having beef stew that's been cooking in the crockpot since 8 o'clock this morning.  Mmmmmmmmm.

I'm having steamed white rice and Cuban-style canned black beans from Trader Joe's, which are pretty (surprisingly) authentic. :) Very basic meal, but I'm pairing it with leftover roast beef from Friday night. Yummy.

How do you do your Noodles Romanov?

Noodles, sour cream (the full fat kind), small curd cottage cheese, grated Parmesan cheese, onion, garlic, salt, pepper, dash Worcestershire, dash hot sauce. Mix the sour cream, cottage cheese, and some freshly grated Parmesan; gently stir in cooked egg noodles and seasonings to taste. Spread into a casserole dish. Top with more Parmesan and black pepper, and bake at 350 for about 30-40 minutes.

I used 6 ounces of noodles (uncooked weight), a cup each of sour cream and cottage cheese, and I didn't measure the other items.

It's past dinner time, but I had whole wheat spaghetti with meat (lean ground turkey) sauce and cucumber & tomato salad with a balsamic vinagrette (sp?).

Can you tell I'm on Weight Watchers?   :P

It's nearly 4pm here(Sydney)so i will have to think about dinner soon..even though i dont knnow what to do!

I got out some chicken breast meat to thaw out..but that's about as far as i got. Still a few days away from payday and to be able to go get some groceries..so it'll be a 'russel up'  job*L* meaning, just whatever i can find in the cupboards that will work ok with chicken.

Any ideas to help?

I dont even have any 'Chicken Tonight' jars to use.

I dont know..will think of something. I feel 'so over' with food today..

Had a delicious roast dinner last night though!

I had inventory at work tonight, and leftovers last night, so I will refer to Friday night....

We went out to our favorite restaurant, called Golden India.

I had Chicken Tikka Masala (tandoori chicken with a tomato cream sauce that contains raisins and almonds.)

DH had Aloo Saag (which is a spinach and potato dish.)

Wish I had a recipe for the chicken masala.....GOOD STUFF!!!   :D

Yesterday I made a big pot of spaghetti sauce to have over and that's what I had for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  My dh is the only other one in the house and he doesn't like spaghetti, spaghetti sauce or hot things (I put toasted hot chili's in my sauce since he won't eat it anyway).  Now, I have to freeze the rest in serving size packages, otherwise I'll eat that for every meal until it's gone.
I've never knitted anything I could recognize when it was finished.  Actually, I've never finished anything, much to my family's relief.

Hey, Willow! How are you? Do you have a Cost Plus World Market in your city? If you do, they carry an awesome tikka masala sauce that's one of the most authentic bottle sauces I've tried. It's used straight out of the bottle, so all you have to do is cook some chicken and veggies and toss the sauce on it. I don't remember the brand (I'll post that the next time I buy a bottle) but it's in a glass bottle that's about 6 inches tall and three inches wide. It's also distributed out of the UK, I think (could be India itself, but I remember reading the label and raising my eyebrows). Anyway, I don't typically like pre-made sauces and most companies that market the ethnic sauces tend to never get it right, but this brand comes very close!

As for dinner, we made butternut squash/sweet potato ravioli with a butter thyme sauce, smashed parmesan potatoes, and a gueyere/onion/ham pizza. Had a couple of friends over for TV and food.
