Neighbors=10, CC=0

My ex-sister-in-law (about whom I have more stories than could be shared) was like this....

We'll just say that when Brother announced their divorce I danced around with friends singing a certain song from The Wizard of Oz.  (And it wasn't "Somewhere Over the Rainbow.")

The Lollipop Song maybe? ;)

We represent the Lollipop Guild,
The Lollipop Guild,
The Lollipop Guild,
And in the name of the Lollipop Guild,
We wish to welcome you to Di-vorce Land!!
You are only young once. After that you have to think up some other excuse.

I was thinking more along the lines of "Ding, dong, she's so wrong...."   But I could be wrong!

They weren't rude, but CC was definitely rude.

I would not have answered the door. If where the neighbors TV could be seen from the front door they might have felt that is would be rude not to answer the door since she could see that they were home.

Knowing their dedication to this show, what possessed CC to go to their house at that hour?  That's intentional rudeness!

I have a TIVO and DVR - still you do NOT distrub me during Supernatural. If you do I will pause it and explain the entire backstory. What happened to the the boys' Mother, what happened to Sam's girlfriend Jess, How the Lady in White in the pilot is actually from the Mexican Leaping Lady Legend ...... up until latest episode. I can also show you every episode to date (1st season on DVD, 2nd season on my TIVO). Needless to say I don't get interrupted during Supernatural. \

I have a history of similar behavior re: other science fiction type shows. So I as soon as I mention one - everyone knows do not call during this time.

Oh T'Mar of Vulcan I've gotten the "It is time to put up childish things" speach from Mom, and a couple of aunts one time each. My solution went something like this.

On Babylon 5 there was this character Deathwaker. She was a Mengula (SP) type character. She had preformed horrible experiments on living beings to develop this anti-aging drug. After the rest of her race was wiped out in a supernova, she offered this drug to the rest of the galacy. When asked by the hero why she was doing this, she replied that to make the drug the main ingrediant must be extracted from a living being. So for everyone who lived forever, another person must die. That type of referencing history and pushing ethical questions forward are what I enjoy about sci-fi. Now, I've never watched Everyone Loves Raymond - what is it that you enjoy about it?

(Note sci-fi loving cousins are cracking up in the corner) We don't get that speech anymore.

f you are enjoying something in your home and don't want to include guests, why answer the door??  People will respect the integrity of y  our home if you insist they respect it -- leave them on the doorstop when they drop in unannounced and they will stop doing it.

I see your point, but a lot depends on the layout of the house.  I don't have a garage, so they can see my car which 99% of the time, means I'm home.  Standing at the door, they can see lights are on inside, see the flickering that is obviously tv.  I'd rather invite them in and tell them to shut up than to sit there listening to them pound on the door repeatedly when I am trying to relax and watch  my show.  I've been a victim in the past of someone doing this and then getting angry that I didn't answer, on the grounds that "I KNEW you were home, and I was worried something was wrong!"   I have no problem ignoring the phone, though.  And people know better than to pull that stuff on me anymore.

I used to be a Survivor junkie and I would warn everyone not to call me at that time.  I used to tape it as I watched in case some huge emergency happened, for instance, the neighbor's house caught on fire and I had to help them get out alive.  My friends would joke that they didn't think I would even do that unless it was during the commercial.

This is why I love my TiVo.  I can just hit the record button, and watch it later, even fast-forwarding through the commercials then.

But the interloper was rude to show up during a program she knew would be on and they'd want to watch.  And if she accepted the invitation to sit down, the least she could have done was shut up, until the commercial breaks...or come back later.

Everyone who knows me knows that when Doctor Who is on they should leave me alone. I take the phone off the hook and won't answer my door, but I live in an apartment. And my parents live an hour away so they don't usually just pop in on me.

When I was in high school I dumped a so-so boyfriend because he consistently would call me during Dark Shadows.  That was before VCRs or any similar devides.  My mother didn't think this was any big deal, but we're only talking about half an hour.

Way to go, Venus!! ;)

(My friends knew better than to call me while DS was on, but it wasn't uncommon for them to call after the show so we could discuss the day's episode.)

I don't even think a flickering TV or a car in the driveway requires you to invite 'guests' in who are neither invited nor expected.  If you feel you must let them know that you haven't been captured by cowboys, simply go to the door and tell them you are sorry you are unable to receive guests and that you'll catch up another time, thank you and goodBYE.

I had a thing for the show WEST WING,  that was my one hour a week of *ME*  time.  My husband left me alone, all 3 kids left me alone, it was my one hour of bliss, and it was one of those shows you had to give your full attention, or you'd miss something. What did PA "friend" do?   Called every week 5 minutes before the show ended.    Last year she asked what I wanted for my birthday, I told her I wanted the whole series on DVD so I could catch all the stuff I missed.

I simply would have taken the phone off the hook before the programme started.

Everyone who knows me knows that when Doctor Who is on they should leave me alone.

Another Doctor Who fan! I love it too, and get might upset if I'm interrupted or have to miss an episode.

Everyone in my family knows not to call me during Survivor.  My dad gets shushed every season because he forgets and  trys to talk during the show.

Whose line is it anyway?  I loved that show.  Thought I was the only one.

Add my 2 cents for the neighbours as well!

My conversations about it usually waited until the next day at school.  We we sooooo hooked on this.
