Are you kidding? I just went through three blizzards in a row and I spent the entire first one on E-Hell!

Snow/ice day with power:
Watch TV, read, play on the Internet/chat room, do laundry and do a little organizing if I feel like it.

Snow/ice day without power:
Shiver, light candles, drink cocoa made on the little Sterno thing, cry a lot!

It's sunny in Phoenix, well, almost always.  I grew up in the midwest and SO remember how great snow days were.  Getting up early when it is still dark and turning on the radio, anxiously waiting for your school name to be called as one of the closed.  Kids here, they don't get that.

Stuck inside on a bad weather day?  I think it bliss.  I get to work crosswords until my head implodes, watch the sort of TV I'd never admit to watching and make a big pot of soup or stew so the place smells wonderful.

I live in Northern Ontario, so a legitimate day off due to bad weather is rare - since, come November, it's rain, ice and snow until May.  Even if we get dumped on - 30+ cm.  (We got a lot of that last year - a foot of snow two or three nights a week wasn't unusual. I was not a happy camper.) Our road and highway maintenance personel are stellar, so the snow is usually cleared by the time people need to head out to work.

However, we're often kept in by cold.  Daytime temps can be -40C with the wind chill, and when it gets like that, I'm not going outside for anything!  On those days, I love curling up with my stack of cookbooks and cooking magazines and planning our menus for a few weeks.  I do grocery lists at the same time, so I'm all set to go when the time comes.  And it usually motivates me to get out toe crock pot and make something for supper.  I also get a chance to catch up on my knitting, my writing, laundry, housework - all of the things that get left behind when we get busy.  And if all else fails , I will - begrudgingly - do homework.  ;)

Being the teenage male I am, I do the most stereotypical stuff.

Videogames, computer, homework, and ehell.

(Don'T ask what a 17 year old male is doing on an etiquette forum, I don't know either, but I love this place.)

 :P

I think it's great that you're here. Interacting with the EHellions has made me much more aware of my own actions and how they may appear to and effect others, and I hope it does for you too!

If it is snow, I shovel the driveway and a path to the bird feeders.  If it is ice, I'll throw some bird seed out the door and let them worry about it.   :)

When I'm not shoveling, I like to have a big pot of something simmering on the stove for a couple of hours.  Chili, soup, chicken stock, whatever.  There's something comforting about it.  Maybe, it is an instinct to store up food, since I also bake cookies or a cake.

Then I'll curl up with a book or two, or maybe a DVD, and wait for the snowplow.

Same here.  I'm in Phoenix, but grew up in the Chicagoland area.  I remember the wonderful sense of freedom you got from an unexpected day off of school.  Listening to the radio, and just praying that they would say your school district is closed.  Who'd of thought we would miss snow after moving to The Valley of the Sun!

I feel bad that my son will never experience snow days.  Maybe we could lobby for a dust storm day!

We got snow!  But mostly slush and ice.
School is closed another day so we really are about to hit cabin fever!
Hubby and the kids are out looking for a hill to try out 2 donated sleds from a neighbor with grown kids.
Then yet another movie.
Only so much laundry you can do, and only so many closets you can sort!
We went out Sat., and had a quick run to church Sun., but that has been it.  What did people do in olden times?
Our pile of items for donation tells me that 2nd hand shoppong will be really good next week because most likely many others are also clearing out STUFF!!

You must be near me.  We got snow too.   I've lived in Alaska and grew up in the mountains of Washington State, but I did NOT leave the house til yesterday because while I know how to drive on snow and ice, I don't think very many people here do.    Hubby is away again, and he told me not to drive.

So today I'm going out to do that grocery shopping I was supposed to do LAST weekend!  I'm finally at that point where I have to go out.... I ran out of creamer for my coffee!  I may also treat myself to some fast food.... I've been craving a subway sammich for over a year now.

All is back to normal now, just cold rain.
Already on a weekend, and most people had a 2 day work week, only.  :)
We took lots of photos of the ice and snow and ICECICLES because it may not happen again for years.
I had bigger dreams of getting stuff done around the house than actually got done, but we all had fun and were safe and warm.  I know a few people that lost power.  When it is 30 degrees or lower and drizzling sleet, you want WARMTH!
One family gathered around in the parents' bed and watched a movie on the laptop.
Our dog learned not to chew up so many things and has earned more indoor time priveleges.
Still have not started scrapbooking.
But I do have ideas for a few pages of ...
THE BIG CHILL '07...
Thanks, ya'll, for keeping me company!  :)

Sigh.

I've never had a weather-related day off. Sometimes, though, a storm comes up and they close the office at noon, or three, or something.

EVERY SINGLE TIME there has been a customer there who can't leave. They're waiting for a ride - from Hamilton, or Newmarket, or some such remote area. We can't actually kick them out, and lock the door on them, so the office has to stay open for them until their ride forces there way through ice, snow and traffic jams to get there.

And guess who gets to stay with them while everyone else in the office goes merrily home?
Courage is the magic that turns dreams into reality.

I once got to the office to find a note from my boss about the company closing before the hurricane hit (I had already left the house and could not be reached).  I went home immediately and did a lot of sewing (that was in my SCA days), but no hurricane.  I don't remember whether we even had any rain.

Unfortunately, I work for the government, so weather-related days off are few and far between.  However, when I get one, it's a prime time to get into my working uniform (shorts and tank top), and get caught up on some sewing.   Believe me, there's ALWAYS sewing to do. I could quit my job and not run out of projects....well, ever!  Thanks to digital cable and DVR, I have a nearly-endless source of entertainment while I sew, too.
Yes, shorts and a tank top, summer and winter. Sewing is hard work, and I get hot!
