What do you do on your (weather-related) day off?
« on: January 15, 2007, 10:34:27 AM »
MLK Day here, but all is cancelled anyway because of "The Big Chill" and possible ice storms.  Most likely we will all have Tuesday off, also.  Where I live (TX,) we just cannot handle the black ice, power outages, and people not knowing how to drive because we only get this kind of weather every few years for a day or two.
So...I had planned to organize my house --ha ha , but I am here, instead!  :)
I have made homemade bread and the kids have cleaned up and earned a video to watch.  Hubby is home and neither of us wants to tackle the "honey-do" list.  Too early to go back to bed with a good book, any ideas?
NOT going outside, just to be safe!

If you had a "free" indoor day, what would you do?
Fear is temporary...Regret is forever.

When I'm stuck inside because of the weather, I tend to do a lot of online work.  I work on webpages I've built for people and our site for the convention ;)  Right now, any of my free time seems to be going to that in particular!

But baking, putting on a big pot of beans for soup, working a bit with DD on our forms, and reading a good book  while drinking hot chocolate with chili powder all seem to be happy ways that we've spent snow days :)

It would be a day to just be cosy and comfy, maybe a good movie, popcorn, a big pot of soup.  Lazy and memorable in our otherwise hectic lives.
I've never knitted anything I could recognize when it was finished.  Actually, I've never finished anything, much to my family's relief.

As I live in a place that tends to see a good amount of snow, and I don't live far from my work, I almost never have time off from work for bad weather (the road department is quite skilled at keeping the streets passable).  Add to that the fact that I can telecommute if I need to, and there goes that.  There have been a few days though where power outages at the office have kept me home, and on those days I usually spend the time with my kids.  The last outage was due to an ice storm, and you'd be amazed how much speed one can gather sliding headlong down a steep, icy driveway on a snow tube with two screaming boys.  My wife enjoys being able to hand off the referee's whistle (figuratively) and sit and look out the window at the fun, although the last time she was unable to resist coming out to take a few runs herself.

I started a drawing last night and hope to finish it today. I'm also in TX and am wondering how bad the weather is really going to get.

Well, since it's MLK day and all of the government offices I deal with are closed, work would have been BORING, so I'm taking a "mental health day" and playing hooky.  I'm goofing off here and then I plan to go to Lowes and pick out some paint for our bedroom.  I feel like redecorating in there and since new furniture is out, it's PAINTING TIME!!!  LOL

well, we have cleaned out my son's closet, all the while with him playing a found  toy harmonica--can you say HEADACHE?
Have a good pile of clothes for charity now.  Just have to wait for weather to clear to drop them off!

Now time for tomato soup and grilled cheese--what else?  With homemade bread, too.  Who wants to come over?  Be careful-freezing rain is beginning to turn into ice.

I always get excited about time off with family and yet we never seem to accomplish much.  But we are together, so if the house remains chaotic, oh well.
My husband carries an old comic strip that asks:
would you rather have ok sex in a neat house or great sex in a messy house?  So...may be TMI, but we are HAPPY!!

I still plan to tackle 2 more closets today...

I've been on the couch all morning watching daytime tv! My guilty pleasure.
This afternoon I might tackle some scrapbooking.

ouch-I burned my bottom lip with the spoon to stir the soup. Skin came OFF!  it hurts!  :(

Oh-scrapbooking!  I went to my 1st ever party Friday, and did my 1st ever page.  The consultant has workdays once a mos and for 5 bucks you can use all her tools, plus you get a little gift bag, plus dessert.  Great mommy/girl's night out!
For home right now I have nothing, but I could review the catalog and decide what to order.
My lip injury is not preventing me from doing anything but kiss, so I guess I shoudl get back to organizing/working/laundry,etc...

Since the only weather related days off we get here are due to impending hurricanes I spend most of the day glued to the weather channel. I like to Crockpot on bad weather days, soups or stews comfort food. I also like to read and go through my cookbooks.
When son and hubby are here we play and watch movies.
I have finally found the bar I can't get thrown out of....

I make comfort food (cream of potato soup, chicken pot pie, things like that), spend too much time in front of the TV and computer, and think about what I really should be doing (cleaning closets, dusting, etc.).

I always promise myself I'll get some extra cleaning and organizing done, but in reality, I tend to spend the whole day in my pj's watching PBS or playing with Thing 1 and Thing 2.  Good times!

Of course, here in PA it is unseasonably warm, and rainy instead of snowy, so here I am at work...
