Not all handicaps are visible and not everyone who says they are handicapped are. It's a bit of a catch-22. I just assume everyone in the handicapped zones is telling the truth and that the karma will get the ones who aren't...
I love those tags...having dealt with some handicapped space vitriol in my time (my Granny has to have handicapped parking) I love that idea!
I have finally found the bar I can't get thrown out of....

My mom, who;s in her 50s and spry, keeps my grandma's spare handicap tag in her car so she parks handicap everywhere. It annoys the living bugs out of me. Maybe I'll sneak one of my newly purchased cars on her windshield one of these days...

I know an entitlement queen who paid a doctor to give her the documentation to get a handicap placard.  She's always late for everything, but defended her usage of the tag by saying "I only use it when I'm reeeaallly late and there are no other spaces to park."

Sure enough, the karma kops got her.  She had an accident and ended up really needing the thing for a few months.  Be careful what message you send to the universe!

I hope the karma kops did a number on the doctor too.  I almost think what he did is worse than what she did.

My mom was sick and had a handicapped hang tag that we used when I drove her to doctor's appointments.  Sometimes, I would have to leave her for a couple of hours while tests were done, and would park in the handicapped spaces to pick her up.  I've gotten a few dirty looks and someone commented that I "sure didn't look handicapped."  I replied, "I'll be bringing back my mother in a wheelchair.  Hide and watch."

Good for you!  Often there is more to a story than meets the eye, and this is a good example of that.

I would never want to erroneously confront a handicapped person.  So, I wouldn't use these tags or say anything to someone who has parked there and either has no tag or has forgotten to display it.

I am also not really in the habit of confronting criminals.  If I suspect someone has committed a crime, I'd alert the police rather than leave the criminal a note.

My mother always gets mean stares when she uses her hang tag because people don't think she is handicapped.  She has a heart condition and literally walking from the car to the store can make her start panting like she just ran a 4 minute mile.  Also he has very bad circulation so after sitting in the car for a few minutes her feet get stiff and he kind of waddles when she first stands up.  After a few minutes she looks just like anyone else but yes she is disabled.

These are great!  I'm handicapped and have good days and bad days.  Plus weather can affect how easily I can get in and out of a place.  I have people make comments ALL the time.  I had one guy make a big show of calling the police and reporting my license plate because I was in a handicapped spot.  I waved my permit at him (it's ALWAYS displayed & has my birthyear on it, 1968) then got out of the car and lifted my leg up to show my 2 inch lift on my shoe.  I then walked (ok, limped) into the store.

I often get people who ask me why I think I'm entitled to park in a handicapped spot.  I politely (usually) inform them that getting hit head on and having both my legs and arm broke "entitled" me and they should try it if they want the same parking privledges.

It was far worse when I drove a purple grand am gt because apparently that wasn't in the handicapped guide book of acceptable vehicles (ahem) but I still get the stink eye at least once a month in my alero.

I do appreciate that people are so strong willed about people fraudulently using the spots.  I think that is awsome.  I just get irritated when I feel like I have to do the handicapped version of a field sobriety test to be believed!  (No, I cannot walk a straight line and due to one bad arm I cannot touch my left hand pointer finger to my nose without assistance from my right hand, do I pass?!?  Do I get extra credit for having no left elbow but a cool ability now to bend my arm backwards???)

As far as I'm concerned, the existence of the tag is what entitles a person to park in the handicapped space.

I don't care if the person got it fraudulently. I don't care if the person thinks being menopausal is a real handicap. If I owned these tags, I'd only use them on cars that have no handicapped placard or plate.

There are many hidden disabilities. The health of the driver is not my concern. I'll leave that decision to the doctor and the state--neither of which are me. :)
