All of these posts illustrate why I always ask people how their name is spelled.  There are just so many ways to spell and pronounce any proper name.

I'm not fond of my "real" first name and have always used a nickname except on legal documents.  It's not super common, but not particularly  unusual, but it still gets shortened, misspelled and mispronounced on a regular basis.  I won't even begin to relate what gets done to our surname.
