Some pics from my country of residence, Austria.  Hiking is the national past time here (along with watching ski races), and understandably, because the mountains are spectacular.  First, a couple of typical flowers found in any mountain meadow:



Schweizer Löwenzahn, a kind of dandelion.



Bartige Glockenblume, a furry type of bluebell found at higher altitudes.



The beautiful Almrausch, which literally means "Mountain meadow drunkeness".  It covers huge swaths of mountains, but it is endangered because people keep picking it.

Here, a picture of a cloud coming over a trail we'd just crossed from a mountain hostel to a peak.



And finally, a reason why you should never drive too fast in the mountains: cows are left to graze pretty freely all summer long.

Scary Santa's ...so amusing.

The one I put up is usually dressed ..well, almost like a pirate but it's supposed to be medieval garb....but it comes across as pirate.

This might be the tackiest factory, I'm always reminded of cheap wallpaper. It's near Wuerzburg.

Oh my goodness, Itzwhouknow, do you live in the Tauber Valley? I was there two summers ago, and I absolutely loved it!

I just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to Fireweed and everyone else who has posted all those amazing and beautiful photos of your part of the world and a part of your life..they are beautiful!

Its not everyday someone can say 'Oh yeah,i have a herd of elk in my backyard!'*L*

Im Australian,so have never even seen elk in their natural environment! A few deer in deer farms here and there,but that's about it!

I love the chipmunk piccy(yet another animal never seen for real)

My favourite cartoon when i was little(and still now that i have a nearly 4 year old daughter)was Chip and Dale..so i couldnt do anything else but smile at that one!

Thanks for sharing everyone,and if i can ever figure out how to post pics(once i actually take them!*L*)then i might be able to share a few of my own from here in the western suburbs of Sydney*S*

You are most welcome. I love sharing my photos with people who like to see them. Actually that is one of the top reasons why I even take pictures.

I love Canada(and the US too..have been to both for a very short holiday) and if i wasnt living here,then i'ld think i was in Heaven if i could live in Canada..might be in different parts of the world(of course!*L*)but i think there are some simular 'traits' between Canada and Australia..and not just the value of the dollar!*L*

Canada(and im sure many parts of the US too)is just stunningly beautiful..especially away from the cities where you can then get the chance to see and appreciate the natural beauty of the land and animals..and people in general too*S*

Hate comparing Canada to the US..sorry about that! Its just like saying that Australia and New Zealand are the same*cringe*


Speaking of NZ..another country i'ld love to see!


Thanks for sharing the landscape and animal pics. Great to see animals living in their natural habitat,and of animals that arent here in Australia(except perhaps zoos/farms etc)

Cant wait to see more!
