What to serve at chocolate party? UPDATE in original post
« on: October 24, 2007, 02:20:58 PM »
Well, besides the obvious, I want to make sure to have some non-chocolate there just in case someone starts to overload!   :)

So far I'm making:

Chocolate Lava Cakes
Molten Chocolate Brownies
Brownies with Dark Chocolate M&M's on top
Chocolate Fudge Cake with White Chocolate Frosting
Blondie's

I'm going to have the following drinks:

Chocolate Martini's
Strawberry Covered Chocolate Martini's
Coke/Pepsi
Diet Coke/Pepsi
Sprite
Ginger Ale
Water
Lemonade

Any other suggestions for non-chocolate foods?  This is an evening party on a Friday night.

*****UPDATE****

I am going to do the above menu plus the following:

Chocolate Fondue
White Chocolate Fondue (thanks summrs)
2 Fruit Plates (1 with sliced fruit, 1 with whole fruit)
Pretzels (need the salty with the sweet, thanks Bienchen)
Various Potato Chips
Strawberry Chocolate Mousse in white chocolate shells (thank you nrb80)

Drinks will also include:
Milk
Wine

Thank you everyone so much for the suggestions!!!  I really appreciate it!

You have to have some milk to go with all that chocolate....  Chocolate & milk just go together...  I'll try to think of something else...

I like the fruit idea too.  You can also do a chocolate fruit dip to stay in the theme.  But I love your menu so far!  It sounds fun!

How about a white chocolate fondue?  Not *real* chocolate, but in the theme:

12 oz white chocolate
1 oz cherry brandy
8 oz heavy cream

Combine the chocolate and cream in a bowl over a pan of hot water, and stir until the chocolate melts completely. Remove the bowl from the heat and stir in the cherry brandy. Put the mixture in a fondue pot to keep warm.  Serve with pieces of fruit or firm cake.

Chocolate mousse, in chocolate shells.  It's exceptionally easy to do if you have a standblender or even handmixer, really, but it looks divine:

Mousse (adapted from Julia Child)
0.5 lbs good chocolate, melted
2 shots espresso or 0.25 cup strong coffee
3 eggs, separated
1 cup whipping cream
.25 cup sugar, preferably superfine

Melt chocolate, coffee together in small bowl over hot water.  Incorporate egg yolks.  Set aside.
Whip egg whites and sugar until stiff peaks are formed, set aside
Whip cream
Incorporate chocolate mixture into whites, then fold in whipped cream.  BE GENTLE!
Pour into shells

Shells
balloons (check for latex allergies!)
tempered chocolate, about 0.5 lb, which leaves an extra or two for mistakes

Temper chocolate - http://www.baking911.com/chocolate/melt_temper.htm
or use melting chocolate that you don't have to temper - check at your local craft store or baking place
Inflate balloons - dip into chocolate.  Place on waxed paper and let harden.  Pop balloons.

How about marshmallows and graham crackers for s'mores?  (They could simply be heated in your oven if you don't have a fireplace, burner, or lamp that they could be melted over.)
I'm away from sanity right now...please leave a message after the beep.

How about a cheesecake with a fruit topping?  Or some of those mini cheesecakes - the ones you make with vanilla wafers in mini cupcake papers, with fruit pie filling?

Shortbread cookies are good, too.

I was going to suggest milk, too.  Maybe offer coffee, even if it's decaf?
No, you can't, because you wishpishabonnyfish.

I'm gonna be the odd one out here and suggest something salty, like pretzel sticks.  Fruit would be good, too, but that's almost as sweet as the chocolate.  I'd go with something to prevent a total sweet overload.

Well I have no suggestions as they've all been made and your menu sounds fabulous, but I had to say what a great idea! A chocolate party sounds like a lot of fun. I mean how can one go wrong w/chocolate?  ;D  Have fun!

STOP THE PRESSES!!!

Exactly where is the recipe for this treat??? I tried to search for it on e-hell, but I have a feeling you e-hellions snuck behind my back and kept this delectible goodness from me.  I am not amused.   >:(

Sounds delicious!  I second the idea of something salty.  I love the sweet-salty mix, and all the delicious chocolate would definitely be sweet overload for me.  I'd also suggest getting a caffeine free diet pop, I'm sure someone would appreciate it and I'm often frustrated that I can't get it at restaurants.

That strawberry chocolate mousse sounds heavenly ;D

I have a great big "thank you so much for being there for me" party I need to give once things are settled down here and I'm going to snag your menu!  I hope you don't mind :)
