My neighbor's dog

I am hoping for the best too! Yesterday, I told my friend, who has rescued several neighborhood animals, about Maggie.  She has a couple of beautiful 'catnapped' cats with shiny coats and bright eyes who were neglected or abused by neighbors.

We still haven't heard from them.  I think that at this point, they've decided to keep Maggie.  But maybe it's been a wake up call for them.  If they are now aware of how other people are viewing this situation, maybe they will be better dog owners.  I haven't seen Maggie outside for a few days now.  Hopefully, they'll keep her cleaned up and give her the attention she needs.

When I learned that Maggie's real owner was the young girl, I had a feeling this would probably happen.  Like when a child has a toy that another child wants to play with.  Even though they haven't picked up that toy in forever, as soon as someone else shows interest in it, all of a sudden it's their favorite toy in the world and they couldn't possibly let someone else near it.

If she gets tired of Maggie (and I think she will), I hope your neighbors remember your generous offer.  Maggie deserves to live with someone who cares.

Well if nothing else, maybe it was indeed the wake-up call they needed.  Either way, you did the right thing by Maggie.  Bless your heart for going so far out of your way to care!  You're a good egg, Shoo!

Maggie needs a loving home, with people who care for her.  She's not being cared for now, not if she's filthy, needs grooming and is ravenous.  I hope Maggie is okay.

Sorry, but if the same cat or dog shows up in your yard more than a couple times, chances are the owners are worthless scum and do not deserve to have the animals. This would be the only time I'd advocate stealing because another life depends on it.

I couldnt agree more. Sometimes whats moral goes against what is legal and you have to act accordingly. God knows I could sleep at night if I was arrested for dog napping in a situation like this~couldnt say the same if I stood by and did nothing.

I agree.  But unfortunately in the OP's situation, the execution of such a plan would be rather difficult, since the dog lives across the street.  She did the right thing.  Now hopefully, so will they.

Unfortunately, I don't have high hopes that the 14 year old will "suddenly" start caring for and about this dog.  In this case the parents need to lay down the law and tell her that she cannot keep the dog since she has negelected it.  It is not fair for an animal to suffer just because she doesn't want to give it up.  Her feelings do not trump the dog's safety.   

Good for you for doing the right thing.  I say if you find her loose again, keep her.  No negotiation at that point.
