*SIGH* Another possible ice storm
« on: January 17, 2007, 10:27:45 PM »
Some of you may remember December 2005 that I was off the board for several days after losing power during a major ice storm.

Well, we're under a winter storm warning. And what is the prognostication? Not much snow. Not much sleet. But freezing rain. Yes, folks, another ice storm.

The power company swears that it's ready for a major storm this time. Uh-huh. We heard the same thing after the storm of 2002.

The warning was just updated, calling for significant amounts of ice, possibly causing falling limbs and power outages.

If you don't see me for a few days, I may once again be in the cold and dark. *SIGH*

(For those used to frozen precipitation, sorry if I sound like a whineybucket. I love snow, tolerate sleet, HATE ice storms.)

Here's hoping Scritzy...be sure you've got plenty of Coke! And go wash all your clothes, sheets and towels now just in case. I learned that in hurricane season...
I have finally found the bar I can't get thrown out of....

Chip bought Coke for me tonight! :D Of course, if we lose power, I won't have any ice to pour it over. Maybe I'll have to stick one outside to get it cold.

I had to look up ice storms on Ask.com.  I thought maybe it was falling ice, but isn't that hail?  So, I found out it is freezing rain or snow that freezes on contact forming ice.  Brrrr.  We've had a cold snap lately from wind coming down from the Arctic and I can hardly stand it, although  it makes for pretty mornings, since it's been clear and not cloudy.
I've never knitted anything I could recognize when it was finished.  Actually, I've never finished anything, much to my family's relief.

Well, we didn't have much problem today, except for some slippery bridges and overpasses this morning. The rain stopped by midday, leaving only a small coating of ice on some branches. Not enough to cause problems, thank goodness. It's 35 degrees now. That's been our high for the day.

However, the weather service has already issued an advisory for the weekend, warning that a differential of two degrees either way will make the difference between a cold rain and a MAJOR ice storm.

Of course it is very difficult to predict the weather in this area. But just in case, I'm cooking whatever is in the freezer so maybe we'll get to eat some of it before it goes bad. *SIGH* again.  ;)

I had a large tree limb fall on me in an ice storm.

Now I can walk out with impunity.

What are the chances of having TWO large tree limbs fall on me?
