good old Ms PITA, what a piece of work
« on: January 18, 2007, 12:07:53 PM »
I met with Ms PITA this morning about our project.  She kept saying stuff like "Boss said you would be one to do this or that (tasks)".  This must have been in one of her clandestine meetings with Boss because I definitely never heard Boss say anything like that to me.  Ms PITA kept trying to back me into a corner and agree to do the things that (she says) Boss wants me to do.  Finally I said "Look, I never heard Boss say that."  I said it in a tone that made it quite clear that I am not buying Ms PITA's story.

If Ms PITA goes to Boss (or just claims to have gone to Boss) and comes running back to me with "I just checked with Boss and you are supposed to do those things" - that clinches it.  It's enough to warrant going to my confrontation-hating boss and saying this triangulation thing has got to stop.

I'm sticking to my guns.  No way I'm going to dance to Ms PITA's tune.

Why wait? It seems to me that boss's handling of this situation is long overdue. And if boss can't control her subordinates, then she doesn't need to be boss. Period. I think I would get together my list of grievances and go to her and tell her what's going on. Inform her that you are sick of this junior high garbage and you're sick of being made to feel like you have to lower yourself to PITA's level. She needs to handle it as PITA is out of control.
You've allowed this triangulation for too long frankly. I know there's really been precious little that you could do, but you need to seize this chance and get this thing solved for good and all.
I'd also request that I wasn't partnered with PITA further, siting personality conflict.
I have finally found the bar I can't get thrown out of....

Good news.

I'm working on part of the project right now - the "joint" version that will be presented to Boss next week.  Looking it over, I can see that it's got me written all over it.  The structure, the language, even the fonts! - it's so obvious that the ideas mostly come out of my head.  It will be very obvious in our meeting with Boss that I have a better grasp on the material than Ms PITA.  I just plain have more ideas and opinions - not to blow my own horn.  ;)

I don't like having to think like this and spend energy strategizing every little aspect of a piece of work.  But people like Ms PITA make this necessary.  Ack!

My advice is to not reveal ALL the details in this document.  Save at least one or two important issues back from the document in each topic area that you can personally raise at the meeting.  Then, your boss will have further proof that the depth of knowledge on these projects is held by you and not by Ms. PITA.
