Actually considering how bad my handwriting has become because of constant computer use, computer-addressed envelopes are a great idea.

Ditto. My handwriting was vile even BEFORE my constant computer use, so I usually do even my personal correspondence on the computer. Except for sympathy and quick thank-you notes — but I pity the people who have to try to decipher them. ;)

I'm even a little upset at the demise of standard typewriters.  It wasn't fun filling out customs forms this morning; I've never been comfortable printing.  A standard electric typewriter would have solved that problem.  :(

I so hate filling out medical forms for new doctors that I have my entire medical history, including present meds, allergies and even family history on my computer; for each new doctor, I update the medications, etc., print it off, take it to the new MD office, fill out my name, address, insurance, etc. on their forms and for everything else, I write "see attached" and give them my medical history document.

Several of my doctors have said, "I wish all our patients would do what you do. It makes our job so much easier." (It's easier on my hands, too. ;) )

Sounds like the bride might have been a little put out by the hostess' gesture?  I think it's immature to refuse to say "Thank You" just because someone has prodded you a bit to do it.  The prodding doesn't change the fact that it is decent behavior to properly thank people for their gifts to you.

I really don't think she was put out.  I think she was just overwhelmed and dealing with some nasty stuff at the time. Her parents never sent thank yous and probably didn't teach her to do so. She's a sweetie and very grateful in person but just recently started getting it about  some written TYs.  She does now send them for gifts that are mailed to her kids, but if the gift is opened in the giver's presence she figures the verbal TY at the time is sufficient.
